Wow. Suspending both advertising and sales, and adding two more weeks of compensation sub time. Plus admitting that at least some of the blame for 2002 was on their end all along.

Oh, and going over the inability to add new servers/hardware (again) for those who for some reason haven't already accepted that to be the case.

I can imagine some people will be very upset about releasing the next patch on time even with the issues, but their reasoning makes sense. There is much more to a patch especially this early on in the expansion than just the hardcore content fights, and delaying any or all of that could cause havoc for the foreseeable future.

Beyond which, rolling back the codebase and making their 2002 fix, then rolling that out separately would probably be a dev-ops headache, doubly so since the last announcement noted they repurposed a lot of their dev-test hardware for the various data-centers as login servers; they don't have a good way to test a rollout on-site any longer, so likely need to be doubly cautious right now when pushing to production.

How about stay to the facts, there is a severe lack of chips, it really stalls and holds down being able to get the parts to the new servers, and nope it is not some kind of server that you personally can run in your parents basement, there is alot more to this kind of hardware than what meet the eye as well as the software it runs on, upgrade of servers that allow for more space on them if possible and adding new ones is not something you simply do like that.

Kinda what I assumed would happen, good stuff.

Would personally rather have something else than free game-time, but 14 extra days is... well, quite a bit more than I expected, so I can't really complain!

Hopefully the fix next week will really fix the errors, looking forward to playing more!


edit: Suspending the sales is surprising, and is really indicative of how bad this problem actually is. But this is probably the right move.

Yeah, I think temporarily suspending the sale of FFXIV is the right move. Continuing to sell a service they cannot reliably provide could lead to all sorts of legal trouble, I think.

Pretty much what I’ve been saying, on the server-acquisition side of things.

Pleasantly surprised that it’s just some leftover 1.0 code that can be fixed easily on the 2002 side of things. I would hate for it to be something more entrenched in spaghetti code.
