Where are these tanks? As a healer no tank I have played with can even come close to self sustaining unless its a paladin holding all their mp. A warrior tried but was easily killed when they couldnt recovered from a tank buster.
There's pretty much no difference between now and ShB for healing in dungeons. You still just heal through everything with ogcds. Tanks getting more self healing just means you can use a couple less of them on big pulls, it doesn't completely change the game.
I think it's fine, idk how many times in the last MSQ dungeon on 2nd boss the healer just stands in the middle and I gotta heal myself by myself all fight, you can sit on the ground while we finish I don't wanna restart because they "forgot" not to stand in the middle and get zapped instantly. If they're new I'll give em a heads up but at least 3 times I've had to heal myself and my group while the healer watches.
No, it really shouldn't. And this is an issue I've had with FFXIV for a long time, because most of what SHOULD be the tank's job has always been the healer's job. I've played games where tanks have very powerful, frequent-use mitigation and self-sustain tools. Games where the tank really works to stay on their feet. Then there's FFXIV where we have these weak, occasional-use mitigation abilities and otherwise spend 99% of our time doing damage and nothing else.
Now for the first time ever tanks aaalllmost kinda feel like actual tanks and not just the designated whipping boy.
Tanks not crumbling to pieces in low-pressure content when a healer doesn't babysit them 24/7 doesn't invalidate the healer role. When you're running extreme trials and savage raids divine veil is not going to keep the party alive. Healers still have plenty to do and even if the tanks were entirely self-sufficient (they're not) there'd still be the rest of the party in need of healing.
Yeah I've got to agree with this.
Bosses seem to be mostly doable without a healer, so long as the tank and damage dealers are all careful to avoid unnecessary damage, but the full wall to wall pull kept going by only tank self-sustain seems more meme than reality to me, so far at least.
My reaction to this game has been largely the opposite. Boss encounters in ARR and HW genuinely felt like you were rationing out cooldowns to survive. Cleaves hit like a truck. Now it largely seems like you're an oversimplified melee dps, just waiting for red arrow to show up so that you can invuln swap and turn off your brain for another two and a half minutes. The worry isn't about 'low pressure' content. The worry is that tanking hasn't been a high pressure role for the past four years and counting. And the addition of more and more powerful defensive tools in the absence of situations that actually force you to use them just contributes to that ennui.
These changes are really just there to make the role comfortable to beginner tanks who would otherwise be panicking and roaring at their healers through the screen the instant that their HP dropped below 70%. It's okay to be scared. That's what makes tanking fun.

I play WAR main, but will eventually get all tanks to 90. Once I got Bloodwhetting....WOW. In dungeons and wall to wall pulling...that skill is strait BROKEN. It is quite literally 10% HP to 100% HP with 1 Chaotic Cyclone.
Now don't get me wrong...this is how WAR is SUPPOSED to play. And in trials it works completely different. Since the change to upheaval, onslaught, and the new orogeny no longer give HP on hit with BW up. Only your 1-2-3, AOE, Fell Cleave, Decimate, and infuriate generate HP now. Which is kind of nice that I don't have to cram so much into my BW window.
The only time...and I mean the ONLY time I have seen real cheese...is when you get x2 WAR when everyone else is dead. 2 equilibrium, 2 nascent, 2 thrill, 2 shakes...I have found myself staying alive for 5-6 extra min while me and another WAR work on the boss.
I'm going to level PLD for my next tank, and I'm sure Holy Sheltron works the same way, along with heals for every Holy Spirit.
You are reversing the roles essentially. Tanks are a tank for a reason. They are not healers. Tanks getting abilities that not only step on healers' toes but also allow them to help shield and heal allies is the absurdity icing to this cake. You cannot have it all. Your dps will be reduced to 25%-45% of a healer if you want to have this type of healing power. What should the healers do? Have you not seen the one healer trial runs on extreme going on right now and see how 1-2 minutes of the entire fight the scholar had to heal with the rest o the time spamming broil? Is this where we are going? Officially reducing the number of healers to 1 and eventually going to 1 tank and 1 healer for every static group because that is quickly becoming the meta for healers at least. I can see it even happening with the minimal gear. No, it really shouldn't. And this is an issue I've had with FFXIV for a long time, because most of what SHOULD be the tank's job has always been the healer's job. heart is a 20% so its pretty damn good plus with two charges of Aurora sustain is god likeNah bruh...
You know how good it feels to drop to 50% and heal myself to full with one overpower lmfao. Broski, I need that in my life. Honestly WAR healing so bonkers I genuinely forget I have Thrill and EQ, it's a madness.
BTW how good is Holy Sheltron and Heart of Corundum? I heard Corundums heal is kinda fat. Does the PLD aoe spell heal off every target like bloodwhetting or is it just the single heal?
