Role players please DO NOT do this!

They could easily fix this by tagging specific worlds as "RP Worlds" so that people that are into that kind of things know where to go, and then add an option in Duty Finder that you can check/uncheck wether you want to queue with people from RP Worlds or not (like the option for queueing with people that speak French, Japanese or German)

TERA used to do that back when it had more than 1 server and it was widely used because people from RP servers are generally bad at video games and other people didn't want to queue with them, specially for PvP.

MMORPG =/= RPG =/= Tabletop RPG =/= Textbased RPG

I roleplay now for like 14 years, every week. Multiple hours with friends and often with strangers in open events and also play tabletop rpgs. Just cause it is labeled as a rpg doesn't mean you can force your idea of an rpg on other players, on common ground you have to be neutral. It's the same as if a glamour maniac just goes out of his way and whispers to you how you can improve your glamour and sends you messages for this for hours. Or a person that found the meaning of life in housing entering your home and lecturing you about feng shui. Most people don't want to deal with that so don't be rude to strangers by forcing your ideals on them.

And i can say, among all serious roleplayers out there this what OP described is basically a No-Go in our scene and even we like it when we get quick through the dungeons. We don't force what we enjoy onto others, especially with strangers.

If you want to go through a dungeon in character find yourself a group for it and don't just be impolite towards other players.

I highly doubt OP situation was as he described it was or these people were forcing RP on the party as you described. If you go into a party through party finder, you say hello and no one replies its safe to assume no one is reading chat or wants to participate so you and your friend can have any talk you want within the TOS range because youre not harrasing anyone and if it bothers you because you, you can turn of party chat completely as much as its in their right to talk to each other.

And if like OP states he went to play along by using emotes to communicate with them its on him for continueing the "rp".

I would not want some randoms trying to rope me into their RP either, I only RP with friends as well for funsies from time to time. Idk why they had to try and drag complete strangers into their roleplay. To talk in character in the party chat with your friend sure, its whatever, just don't involve me in it.

They are just asking for a little forethought from RP'ers before they try and pull complete strangers into their RP, people are responsible for themselves but it won't kill you to be a little considerate. People are not psychic. If you don't say anything how will they know you don't want to be involved? This is an MMORPG therefore it can attract real social butterflies and they shouldn't be made to feel discouraged for it. Not everyone is socially anxious in game which I'm surprised that's even a thing considering I'm talkative online but painfully shy in real life but I digress. Social people should not be forced into being quiet; shy people should just pucker up and say something. For all we know, the RP'ers the OP referred to were most likely just trying to make new friends. MMORPG's are not single player games and shouldn't be treated as such, if you want to be left alone, literally just type 'Hey, sorry I don't feel like talking. Just want to play' took me barely 5 seconds to write that.
