What I hear you saying, generally speaking, in response to the horrible situation that FFXIV faces with this login issue is be patient. I can not fault you for that, your faith in the development team has been forged from years of experience with them and from what I have read is well deserved.
Me personally, I would lump myself in with the wow refugee group even though I quit wow for the 5th time over a year ago. Most game developers I have dealt with, never tell the truth, say they are working on something when they aren't and are only too happy to take your money and provide nothing in return. That is a toxic perspective, I realize that, and it is unfair to apply that perspective to this game when there is so much community support for the development team. This game is fun, and I am not use to waiting four hours to play an online game, only to be disconnected and wait another four hours. I believe everyone can admit that it is a terrible situation we find ourselves in, but please be patient with the other players who are outraged by this treatment, their experience with game developers probably falls into my own category and not your own.
Some suggestions for players:
1) 6:30 AM EST the wait time is a few minutes, if you really want to get your moneys worth, playing earlier in the morning US State side may help.
2) When you get disconnected, attempt to reconnect, hit the start button as soon as you see it. If the game does not connect by the time the end walker logo displays use task manager to stop the game, and launch the game immediately. Repeat until you reconnect and you might be able to get back into queue where you left off.
Some suggestions for Square Enix:
1) It is very frustrating to wait in a queue, and when you are 100ish players away from logging to be shunted back to the end at over 8k players ahead of you. I suggest that you initiate a special login. Let players sign up to login, provide an estimated wait time and have them disconnect. When it is their turn to connect, send a text/email whatever with a code that will allow them to connect to the game. You won't have people pulling their hair out and cursing your name because they wasted 4 hours waiting. It still sucks, but it at least provides some fairness to your queue process. Each place for a player should be held for 5 minutes or so, which should be long enough for them to launch and log into the game.
2) If you do not see a solution to this problem, perhaps you could provide a special mount, free class boost, or fantasia to players who would be willing to not login for a few weeks. You could temporarily inactivate their accounts, so they can't login and you really aren't out any actual money.
Anyway, hope these suggestions help someone. I appreciate the opportunity to vent.
