Requesting Information on Jobs: Preparing for 1.21

Hello! We received some information about job-specific gear that I'd like to share with you.

It won’t be possible to attach materia to job-specific gear. Job-specific gear will feature stats that are better than gear that is craftable that have more than one materia attached. With that said, we will look into adding new gear in future patches that will have better stats than job- specific gear with multiple materia attached to them.

There was also a question about the reasoning for the job-specific gear being referred to as AF (or artifact gear). While the upcoming job-specific gear is a type of artifact gear, there are plans to have other types of artifact gear in the future, some of which won’t necessarily be job-specific.

Awesome. Gear that only needs to be quested after flying through levels at light-speed being better than crafted gear. Doesn't the team think this is going to severely impact crafters and the economy since sales of equipment are going to stop dead in their tracks for months?

Play FFXI and do the Magian trials, they've already proven this won't happen if they make it require a decent amount of work and if they make the content challenging enough to warrant it it will have its place just like crafted gear with materia attached will still have its place.

The whole point of this is to balance out how powerful materia gear is, it's time for alternates that you can quest and/or get from raids, like people been wanting to happen.

Not really.. if the difficultly of the JSE is very hard to get... not many will be able to obtain them without a good LS to help with the cause

It's not going to be. It will be quested easily and, unlike XI, you can level to 50 in a few days here. This will completely marginalize materia and gear as it will no longer be needed. At least, for a few months that is. Just sayin....

We dont know that for sure. And yes, AF gear should be powerful compared to all other items at or around that level.

It's way easier to level in FFXI then it is in FFXIV. Guess you haven't played FFXI in the Abyssea era. You can go from level 1-99 in about 8 hours on any job. 1-30 if leeching people doing GoV in gusgen or boyada which doesn't take as long at all. 30 to 99 you can leech an FC in abyssea and be capped in no time. Only like 1 or 2 people even need to be killing the mobs and the other 16 can just sit there and leech exp. You can afk for almost all of your leveling too.

Leveling in FFXIV is a pain by comparison.

People pretty much shout all day in jeuno advertising FC party for like 50-100k an hour which is almost nothing now. You can even get it free if you do keys, sometimes people will be like hold KIs for me and you get free exp, a couple weeks ago I got a KI held it for the guy my blm went form like 40 to 99 in about 5 hours.

One can only hope, in turn making Yoshida wonder what he was thinking and then completely scrapping the materia system .. or maybe not

I would like to think the new instances are somehow linked to the AF gear, hopefully multiple quests to return to both dungeons to get all gear pieces.

If the gear is soloable them I will be disappointed.

Well while progressing to 50/after you hit 50 and are still searching for AF and job skills, the materia should be helpful. But yeah, i'd hope the gear requires parties, and most of the skills are solo.
