    Requesting Information on Jobs: Preparing for 1.21



    There's no doubt that Jobs have been one of the most anticipated additions to FFXIV ever since the inception and announcement of the idea. Not to mention the hype that's been building with much of the aesthetic sneak-peeks we've been getting.

    Now let me first say I'm very grateful for the exciting previews show thus far, but what I'm really hungry for is some details as to the mechanics of the job system. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'm spending plenty of resources, whether it be time, gil, or both to gear up my classes to best fulfill their roles in party and/or solo situations. However, I can't help but feel a lot of these efforts may be in vain with the introduction of jobs and related exclusive gear.

    So here are a few questions I hope we can receive some answers to sooner rather than later:

    Q: To what extent will a player's cross-classing ability with actions be limited upon switching to a job? Will we simply not be able to cross-class at all? Will we be limited in the number of skills we can carry over from other classes? Will we be limited to only certain classes we can pick from? Perhaps some combination of all the mentioned possibilities?

    Q: Will we be able to equip gear that belongs to the class that unlocks the job upon switching to said job? The weapon? I ask because it would be a curious case if suddenly I could make Ifrit's Bow into a harp. Perhaps the BRD, in this example, uses a horn when not equipped with a transforming bow?
    A: When on a job, we will be able to equip any gear the base class can, including the weapon. No clarification on how BRD songs will be when the AF bowharp is not equipped.

    Q: Will crafters be able to make job-specific gear? or will any and all job-specific gear be obtained only through content as rare loot?
    A: No plans for crafted job-specific gear. http://goo.gl/YvWav

    Q: Will there be set bonuses for equiping the entire set of job-specific gear? For that matter, will there be other sets - not only job-specific - that will be released in the future that will grant set bonuses? Existent sets perhaps receiving set bonuses?

    Q: It was said that the disclosed job-specific gear sets would be unlocked upon completing all of the quests for that job, and that these items would be Unique/Untradeable. What sort of potency can we expect in their stats?
    A: The initial set of AF in 1.21 will have stats more potent than forbidden materia melded crafted gear. They will not be meldable. http://goo.gl/ypxJo

    Q: What will be the process of switching to and from a job? Will it be through the use of an inventory item, a key item, a menu selection, or perhaps through equipping a job-specific weapon?
    A: New gear slot and item tentatively named 'job stone' that will be equipped. http://goo.gl/Cgi4J

    Q: When on a job will a player's attribute build be different from that of the class the job stems from? Will jobs have their own point allocation?
    A: Jobs will have different base parameters for their attributes, however the allocated bonus attributes will be carried over from the base class.

    Q: Like job-specific actions, will there also be job-specific traits? If yes, will these traits be added to those of the class or replace them?

    Q: What will the requirements be to unlock jobs? Will each job only have a level requirement from the job they are based from, or will they also require other classes to be at a minimum level?

    Q: How challenging will the job quests be? Will they be solo? party? some of both?

    Q: Are there plans for different jobs branching out from the same classes in the future?

    Those are some questions I can think of off the top of my head that I believe will drastically alter the manner in which I prepare for 1.21 and hopefully avoid regretful investments.

    What do you guys think? Do you have an answer to any of those questions with a reliable source? Do you have any predictions and/or expectations in any of those subjects? Also of course, any questions you would like to add?

    I WISH we got answers to all these questions... But I seriously doubt we'll get any in-depth info before 1.21 patch notes : (

    I was hoping the dev team would be more open once subscriptions started since... you know...

    I can answer one of those right now as it was already asked and answered, there will be no jobs for DoL or DoH they are purely for battle jobs

    Oh I see what happened. I think it was my phrasing for that question. What I was asking was actually if crafters will be able to make job-specific gear for the battle jobs, versus any and all job-specific gear being entirely looted through content. I'll rephrase that real quick.

    Nope, the purpose of the Job is to excel at one role, at the cost of not being able to utilize abilities from other classes. So what abilities are provided by the CLASS and the JOB is all you get.

    Your Job can use whatever your Class can use. So a PLD can equip anything a GLA can for example.

    I can't confirm that, but I am doubting it. I believe JSE will most likely be in the rare/ex. department.

    I do recall them saying that AF gear will help boost the performance of your job, so maybe.

What sort of potency can we expect in their stats? Will they be about equivalent to triple-melded crafted items like the current Ifrit and Moogle weapons? Will they have unique bonuses not attainable via materia that will benefit the job in question? What sort of motivation is there, besides appearance, to equip job-specific gear instead of class gear, should class gear be accessible?
    My guess stat wise is that they will be as good as 2-slot materia, could be wrong however. They want crafted gear to ultimately be better, but you have to get a lot slotted in the piece of gear to make it the best. At least that is what they are aiming for.

    There will be a system in which the development name is "Job Stones" that will be on your menu and you apparently simply activate the job on the class you are on. It could of changed however, but that is how it was explained in interviews.

    Your point allocations only derive from your class. This is another guess, but I believe certain stats will be automatically enhanced when switching to a certain job. Like switching from GLA to PLD will greatly increase your defense, or switching from LNC to DRG will increase your Crit+ rating.

    I can honestly say, with the patch a month away, this kinda info will be coming within the coming weeks and you didnt really need to request it

    I'm not sure is that was stated, implied or just assumed. Either way, it is not confirmed. There may be zero cross class with jobs or the number of cross class skills you can use may be reduced.

    Once again, speculation. And honestly, I don't see PLD having higher defense than GLA. Especially since players have very little actual defense to begin with. Most of it is derived from gear. I don't know that switching will affect your stats at all. I thought a dev said that PLD was going to get a decrease in HP and an increase in MP.... but then they did that for Gladiator. So really... Who knows?
