I always add support for features that make someone else's game better for them, but have no effect on me. So, +1.

In the meantime, for 99% the same experience, drag the teleport button off your action bars. Turn the 1% temptation to drag it back into some kind of RP thing where the teleport action is addictive and your character is recovering from that addiction, vowing never again to touch that teleport. You remember the chirurgeon saying 'one more time and your liver's just going to up and quit,' but your hand trembles as you resist the temptation. You instead grip your '7 Days No Teleports' chip and remember your friends and acquaintances that are fighting the same battle.

You turn and head towards the nearest Tel-Anon meeting.

In essence, when you take the ferry or airship in FFXI, it loads you into what is essentially like our Ocean Fishing instance, except the vessel appears to be moving with landmarks below you can see. You can't jump off or otherwise arrive earlier or at a different location.

You simply sit on the boat and just wait until you arrive at your destination. The only thing that makes it interesting is that you can fish on the ferry, and occasionally special events might happen like a pirate attack or special monster might pop.

It's good in that it encourages socialization while you're stuck waiting, but it's a very different game than FFXIV in that there really was a lot of time wasting just waiting around for stuff.

The problem here is much of the "world" doesn't exist as game assets. There is no seamless world we're traveling through, just isolated zones and our characters is "skipped" across blank space between them.

I like immersion but I also have more time on my hands than the average player. The vast majority of players will always opt for fast travel because they simply don't have the time more immersive travel would require.
FFXI had a world map like a classic FF rpg would have, which airships and boats would travel on. Originally there was one planned for FFXIV too, though that was like.. 10 years ago lol.

You could have an incident in FFXI like missing the boat which causes you to miss your airship which causes you to not be with your group who travels to a content, then you die on your way.. or something. Not always but it /could/ take upwards of 30 to an hour to get what you were intending to do. Yeeeehaaaa... lol

No teleport mode already exists as others have said. You simply don't put the teleport options on your hotbars/keybinds. I have a friend who plays once of his characters that way (along with a few other self imposed restrictions). He only travels on foot (no mount) and doesn't use transportation options unless it's the only way to get to another place (for instance, needing to use the Vesper Bay ferry to get from Vylbrand to Thanalan).

It just takes a little self-discipline instead of asking SE to waste developer time programming a specific game mode almost no one would use because foot travel takes too long when players only have a few hours a day to play.

Which is fine i still feel they can input it as an instance transportation for those who wish for it (completely optional thst could have its own possibility for rewards)

Yeah I guess it would be for the next MMO, however, developing them has become expensive to the point where I don't think we'll see something like that again. And XI was awesome, but to be frank, 30 to an hour was an insane amount of time. So it doesnt need to be that extreme, in XIV I perceive an overcorrection of this though. Where if you simply flew or even traveled by land you can get anywhere within 10 minutes, and thats very tolerable even for time sensitive people IMO. What I dislike is the teleporting being everywhere and super cheap, I mean, you can even port to a city, so you can port next to the most important buildings because you don't want to walk 10 seconds. They have teleports for the teleport hubs.

And so dont use it, but the thing is if I could just talk to an NPC to get raid gear for free on the spot I would just do that instead of doing the fights, and I don't think the game would be better for it. If you could lie to the NPCs about having completed the dungeons and move on with the MSQ all the instances would be dead for the most part, people would just do that, but it wouldn't be a better game for it and it'd be pretty dead if you ask me.

But yeah its too late for any of this. Best case scenario I would just +1 a slow travel server (personally I think this would be on the easier sides of implementation, just disable teleporting in general). No need to change everyones game. I would be curious if it would thrive.

To be truly immersive, rather than the 20 minutes that EQ had, or the time FFXI had, it should take you months to get where you are going. Then while travelling, you suffer from a debilitating disease because there's not enough healthy food on the ship.

Sure, i'll just board this rocket to the moon; it shouldn't be a problem.

Are you saying that adding a toggle in setting that just disables an ability, would be as complicated as boarding a rocket to the moon? I mean if it's really that complicated then disregard the idea entirely, I wouldn't want this prioritized over anything else. I just thought it might be really simple and easy to implement since it's literally just, disabling an existing ability, and adding a new entry on the settings page. Not sure how that equates to boarding a rocket to the moon, but if it's that difficult of course don't even bother with it. Was just a suggestion/idea, nothing more

Yeah, but at least that way it doesn't interfere with the game in any way for those who don't want it. It's literally just a tiny quality of life type of thing, nothing to think too deep into. I wouldn't want significant effort or anything put into it, I just thought it might possibly be really easy to implement, without affecting anybody's experience who doesn't want it. It's just idea, I'm not asking them to delay the game for it or cut other content or anything, if it's not as easy as just adding a line of text in the settings and simply adding a few lines of code to disable the ability then it's not even worth it. Just thought it might be super simple
