Can we get an immersive mode without teleport?

Everything is nice but seriously if the developers catered to all the little niche requests on this forum they'd get nothing else done. You already have the ability to not use teleport so don't use it.

Why so aggressive? If the developers have too many other niche requests and not enough time they won't even bother with it. They are big boys and girls you know, you don't need to defend them, if they are too busy they won't even consider the idea and you don't have to worry.

I'm not being aggressive just stating my feelings on the issue. I'm not offended and I'm certainly not defending them so please don't infer my feelings on the issue. Sorry if it doesn't meet with your wishes and YOU appear to be OFFENDED by my comments.

You don't want to teleport you don't have to it's pretty simple. I'm not the only one in this thread who has commented in that matter. Did you honestly think everyone would jump on board with this idea?

What I do is I avoid teleporting when doing the Main Story Quest, because the story assumes you went everywhere on foot. I use my chocobo to travel, I use the airships, ferries and porters.

What is so good in this game is you have the choice not to teleport when roleplaying, but you have the choice to teleport when in a rush (need to get somewhere because of raid pressure).

Can we get an immersive mode that can be toggled on, or off, in the setting, that disables teleport unless you are at an aetherite?

I actually love having to journey from place to place, and it would be cool to have a mode where teleport is not an option. Seems like it may be easy to implement.

That's because some of us came from WoW, and we laughed this idea off back in the day when a handful of crazy players demanded that Blizzard remove flying. The next thing you know, that became their go-to stance in the WoD expansion, and they've stood by ever since, to the point where even in the face of a chorus of boos over it at Blizzcon, they reaffirmed their commitment to withholding flight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y22zkAwyZ0

Ion makes their position pretty clear with this statement, taken from the video: "If it annoys everyone a little bit, it's probably better than the alternatives."

It's not. You're seeing the alternative right now, which is a mass exodus of players from WoW to here. I guarantee that if Bozja suddenly became the model for all the new FFXIV areas going forward, I would no longer be pre-purchasing FFXIV expansions. If you want to walk, then walk. Don't impose that on the rest of us.

Your statement sounds like a warning of something that’s already in place. What is described in the YouTube video is exactly what FFXIV does right now. It grounds you until you are done with the zone. So XIV is already doing what WoW does.

It is and it isn't. In FFXIV you can fly immediately upon finishing off the story of the zone if you've been collecting the aether currents along the way. WoW you have to wait for at least the first major patch to fly. Shadowlands was the earliest WoW players have gotten to fly in a WoW expansion since before WoD. In BfA, Legion, and WoD you had to do a two part reputation grind achievement to unlock flying with the second part usually not coming out until the X.2 patch or later. It would be like us not being allowed to fly in new areas until around an X.3 or X.4 patch.

As for the thread topic, I have to echo others. Why waste dev time on something that you can simply do yourself? Not to mention this is not a Survival game, it was never meant to be a survival game, and I can't really think of any JRPG games off the top of my head that use survival game mechanics. That seems to be a very Western style of gaming.

I would be open to them opening a server with no teleportation available, and aside from roulettes (which for obvious reasons wouldnt work otherwise) require the players to actually travel to the location of the content to queue for it in DF. I think it would add life to the world instead of everyone grouping up in hubs and the world being dead.

You'd actually see players who have business in different areas.

When I skip doing tele's I've seen that if you use the ferrys and fly you're normally about 3 minutes away from most places you'd need to get to and never more than 10 minutes way from anywhere in the world.

People say fast travel does not hurt game design, it is merely an option, but it does affect it. When developers know fast travel is available they design zones that are way more sparse, and don't have too much of note in them because they expect players to teleport everywhere. You also see animations for travel getting cut down, for example Airship travel has animations between Limsa, Gridania, and Uldah. It also has a very nice ship boarding sequence when taking the ferry from Limsa to Thanalan. But on all later content, the Gold Saucer, Ishgard, the ferry to Kugane those have been taken out and you just get a black screen because developers figure most people will be teleporting anyways and it would be a waste of resources, even if it hurts immersion.

Sure it has its perks, but personally if a server without it existed I'd migrate there because travel is part of an adventure MMO, and it's one of those things that people will skip it if they can most of the time, but at same time they also appreciate it if that's the only option they have.

Noone takes road trips to be in the car for a while, but being in the car seeing the landscape or with friends is also part of the experience and it wouldn't be the same without it.

I echo the overall sentiment of this thread: You can take it off your hotbar and never see it again. It's in a tab in your spellbook that you never need to click on for anything except LB.

Feel like this whole thread is getting blown out of proportion.
