Is there a conspiracy for lvl capped players to ignore materia?

I don't use materia until I get my end of expansion gear. Everything else is replaced too quickly. I have a ton of materia that never gets used as a result. I never sell it either it just sits around taking up space so I really should do something about that sometime.

You can take materia out. Just meld it. It's cheap too. It couldn't be any easier.

You won't get any arguments from me. I just don't see the need to meld when I rarely ever even do ex trials these days. Don't need them for dungeons and 24 player / story mode 8 player raids. All my i530 gear is melded however.

Materia has changed over the years...

In the past, extracting Materia did indeed destroy the piece of gear, and you had to either Meld it by yourself or get another player to do it for you. Relevant crafter levels were required for the Melding, which generally meant you had to be max level in every crafter if you wanted to use Materia until I think Stormblood...
