Everyone freaking out about two measly positionals, but ignoring the entirely new Blitz mechanic?
Is MNK a NIN now?

Highly doubt it. NIN became super good after its rework not just because the rework was good, but because it was more accessible. Monk will NEVER be that, with it's positionals. They probably should have gone full ham and just kept positionals on Bootshine and Dragon Kick, just to keep the flavour. Monk could easily be the most represented melee, because people LOVE the aesthetics of an actual fighter. Howeveronce you actually try it and comepare it to other melee, the aesthetics just don't make up for the all the work you have to put in to get numbers barely higher than dragoon. This is a fact.
I feel you're pain. As a main SMN since Beta, this overhaul feels like they are removing everything I enjoyed about the job. With GL going away, losing some positionals for the sake of 'making the job easier', and even further changes to Perfect Balance; the original 'ultimate' lvl 50 ability.. Seems like the Monk a lot of us have known and loved is going away.
I have loved Monk since 2.x, but it seems like SE doesn't know what to do with it anymore
I have no doubt that Monk will be a fun job to play, but the lines between it and the other Melee jobs seem to be thinning.
By the looks of it, the Blitz mechanic is closer to Meikyo Shisui. You activate Perfect Balance> Execute Three Skills to collect sigils> perform a finisher, which unlocks a Light/Dark finisher chakra depending on which one you did. You have to execute two separate finishers to perform Starshower ala Shoha.
I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic. Monk is getting new attacks, we're getting a new mechanic to replace GL, and we're getting a combination En Evant/Aetherial Manipulation.
The only thing I'm not really pleased with is the loss Raptor Form positionals, but we've still got way more than the other melee.
Why are people flipping out over GL being gone? Yoshida's character had a 1.97 gcd in the live letter. I'm fairly certain that it's still there, and the translator just misspoke because Monk has about 10 new terms and a complex system to explain.
As for if it's good... hey, it's new. At this point, I'm just shocked Monk actually had something added for once, even if it does seem to come at a pretty steep cost --most of our oGCDs are gone. Elixir Field is a on-the-GCD Blitz, Tornado Kick was missing from the bars (so probably the missing Blitz), and STackle is now just pure movement. I'm a little worried Monk will feel too slow, but we do have PB every 40 seconds, RoF every 60 (Brohood is every 120 now though), and Riddle of Wind every 90 so maybe it'll be fine. And maybe more, we'll have to wait for the media tour to see what, say, Anatman does. All we know is it's still on the GCD.
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
Exactly.
I´m actually sceptical about this and the loss of positionals. We get a new Meikyo Mudra mix, but it´s nothing new. It´s just more a copy & paste idea and we´ll have "must use" skills anyway. I can´t even believe that the job is becoming busier to justify less positionals. We just spam PB more often to perform a finisher and that with less off-GCD´s. Seriously we don´t need a 2nd SAM or NIN.By the looks of it, the Blitz mechanic is closer to Meikyo Shisui. You activate Perfect Balance> Execute Three Skills to collect sigils> perform a finisher, which unlocks a Light/Dark finisher chakra depending on which one you did. You have to execute two separate finishers to perform Starshower ala Shoha.
The new gapcloser is questionable too. If we have a look at the latest content, there is not even a need for so many movement and you rely on other players if you want it to use as an escape. I highly doubt that we´ll get content, which needs such an amount of movement, even if i hope so.
Monk is currently my 3rd or 4th most hated job and after this job trailer I am cautiously optimistic that when I level monk from 80 to 90 I may actually enjoy it. But it wasn't enough to make me be considering switching mains.
I really hope this is true, because the removal of GL would honestly be a huge deal, much more than I think people might realize. The class would feel so much different / slower without it, and that has me very concerned, especially since 3 of our OGCDs are now either gone or seemingly turned into blitz's, which I strongly disagree with. I'm going to hold final reservations for after the media tour, but at this moment I can't help but feel apprehensive.
Nothing wrong if monk loses more positionals. I dont know why some monk players are so hell bent on them keeping the 6 they have. Two is enough.
Always saying it wont be monk if the positionals go etc etc. We all know that is nonsense. Squares main job should have been to remove as many positionals as possible while making the job more engaging, positionals aren't engaging the way they are implemented on monk, and in fact drives a metric ton more players away than it attracts.
What I find HILARIOUS, is that when i said take away DoTs from summoner, i got raged at like i get raged at here for saying take away the positionals, and guess what???? They took away summoner DotS, and not a single blasted complaint. Why? Because they fixed the damn job to make it more engaging to play with good QoL changes. This community is something else sometimes man, like really, unbelievable...
question: why you think those people who are hellbent on keeping 6 positionals keep playing monk? answer: because they find doing a lot of positionals fun, let us have our fun, if you like to play a melee what has little to no positionals, why not play one of those others instead? or better yet, if you aren't playing on high end content, why not simply ignore the need to do positionals?(after all the dmg diference is not that big to be a big factor on casual content outside of clearing content slightly faster)
so me question is, why are you hellbent on positional removal on monk, if you do not like it as much, why not simply move to a job what has fewer?
