    My Eulogy for Machinist

    Be warned this is me being the most dramatic about a Fictional role in a game ever.

    The year, 2016. After studying trying to get into MMOs again I recently learned FF14 had a Gunner job, not only that but a Gadgeteer! So much potential to be had with the concept! So naturally got into it and got pissed it was locked behind HW. And even more pissed I couldn’t make it in time for Stormblood and the job changed radically in SB, making all guides I was studying useless.

    In time I got it to and essentially spent the rest of the expansion maining it, sure had some bumps, confusing kit, atrocious Progression kit and a cancerous stigma on its head for not being as good as BRD. Above it all it was my main, and enjoyed learning and mastering it...then came 5.0

    The job I loved was shattered, grinded down. Mechanics that could’ve been expanded upon, streamlined, or even simplified were erased. Replaced with bland OGcds, I’m supposed to feel somthing for doing the daunting task of “pressing it when the cooldown reaches zero” which makes it as engaging as flèche.

    Comming 6.0 I just don’t see my love for the job blooming, the job action trailer meant to showcase new mechanics and how the job evolved and meanwhile MCH wallows in the same puddle thinking yet another aoe skill and yet another reassemble fodder and what seems to be a aoe Queen Attack with the same wonky queen Ai and crappy timer... it’s just this was the perfect time to ascend and go thru interesting new ideas and concepts with this baseline, the baseline isn’t supposed to be all that it had going for it.

    Yes I’m overreacting, yes I’m very in the minority that SHB was a step down. But was SHB so good to not receive anything substantial? While it’s cousins explore new mechanics with peacock prance and new songs? Truth be told we don’t know
    100% of the implications but as shallow as MCH is all Of it’s kit was in display, except tactician. Mch deserves better, or mayhap this is exactly what the new mains want.
    Once we get the patch notes and once the initial hype is gone, perhaps you’ll think the same or I could be completely wrong and MCH hides a better job in there somewhere in the details. Still literally every job maybe except DRK looks better and has changed somewhat

    MCH is more of the same it look like. So not much excitement for it.

    To drown out the hype, chainblast is a Aoe. Meaning all the trailer showed was aoes meaning it’s Single target kit is 100% unchanged assuming they removed tactician

    The most shallow job in the game didn’t receive a single skill in its ST Arsenal

    Funny, the first thing I noted was the lack of changes I saw in the Machinist kit over the changes to my class. Kinda sad actually since I actually really enjoyed machinist, and it's kinda bummy to see it not being more celebrated when currently the class itself (putting it in a straight direct elitist perspective) doesn't really contribute much at all to a group with semi-adequate DPS and little-to-no utility.

    One interesting thing is that despite many players who care about job depth and good gameplay loops not liking machinist (I have to admit the charm wore off for me) it is actually the most popular ranged DPS by a fairly wide margin right now.

    Turns out a lot of people like Heat Blast go BRRR as a loop, I guess. Good for them I guess, and if any job in the game could survive purely by being aesthetically flashy and having a simple, instant reward to spam, I guess it is fine that it is the one with the gun!

    As if a lot of other jobs weren't stuck in a go BRRR during *put here the appropriated flashy burst phase name* loop as well XD

    Lack of changes is not always a bad thing. At least i know that in Endwalker i have a job i can continue to rely on.

    I have seen some people getting so much changes to the job they were enjoying, that they did end up dropping it.

    Lack of change is a bad in this case.

    Flamethrower still exists, Wildfire still seems as uninteresting as before, MCH still lacks buttons and could have less buttons if not the same as WAR now.
    MNK got a massive overhaul, SMN got way too much work into it, even perfect jobs like BLM, GNB and DRG got way too many new animations. Ranged are still not support DPS.

    MCH didn't even got a lot of animations, 3 and nothing else. Even RDM got more utility. I was expecting nothing and was still let down.
    It sucks, I'm incredibly disappointed, where did those extra months of development went into? And discussion will go into SCH.

    My favorite job will remain a vegetable job for another 2 years, when the translator said "MCH didn't changed but let's talk about it anyway" was the final nail in the coffin.

    DO something, READ feedback, holy crap that job action drained all hype from me.

    The problem is that it's super popular with the very very casual playerbase, but as soon as you are someone going deeper, it's mind numbing. I m so happy to have another 700 potency gcd to use every 20/40 seconds that will make my hypercharge annoying to use and maybe overcap + 2 reassemble that's such a rotation changer. Oh and we sure never complained about Queen being just fire and forget and wanted to have more interactions with it, so it seems logical they added another random finisher to it (/s). Very disappointed too

    I wasn't expecting a big shakeup since we got that last time, but...yeah, I suppose it was whatever. I do not like Heat Blast spam. I'm amazed people like Stormblood MCH though...now, Heavensward MCH, there's a tragedy :P designed with small cast bars in mind, a skill ceiling with a satisfactory effort:reward ratio, swiss army knife of support..all stripped away because they angered Bards by bending them to the same mold as MCH which made no sense. So they bent MCH to BRD's mold instead and ruined that. Rest in peace, sweet prince. [Alexa, play Dragonsong]

    Genuinely thought they'd at least put in the effort to make Flamethrower give heat but they couldn't even think to do that again. They also randomly just took off 2 seconds of wildfire so you don't even fully get it on trick now, yet the spastic weaving still exists. Flamethrower looks like it might interact with Bio since it got channeled for a GCD length, but ehh. I'm getting my hopes up. Expecting this job to feel finished an expansion after was probably just getting hopes up too high. Happy for summoner and monk players, though.

    It's just strange to me. The job feels like it's still clinging on to half of it's old, unsatisfying animations and sprucing up one small step at a time. The new shotgun move assuredly replaces Spread Shot, but we're still stuck dabbing during hypercharge and mindlessly poking with Gauss, it almost looks like an autoattack on a GCD. I'm wondering why they don't just finish the job up entirely because it seems likes such an easy fix. Here's to hoping they actually went and made Wildfire be able to crit or at least do aoe damage.
