I have to say it was incredibly vindicating to see that come on.Monk needed a new mechanic to replace Greased Lightning and I didn't anticipate that coming back once the timer was removed.
As a long time advocate for something like Blitzes as a new mechanic, I'm pretty happy with what the showcase. I'll still wait until the Media Tour and having the tool tips before I give my final judgement but I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment.
It'll probably be a trashfire, but it at least will be one that looks flashy.
From what I heard it was only true strike and twin snakes that is losing the positional because the Job is becoming much more busy.
I've mained MNK since ARR and I am very happy with what I saw, I'll still hold off until I've actually played it but I think that you're overreacting a little.
The new system we're getting alone is setting us apart more from other melee.
I think that getting rid of the positional on true and twin sounds pretty pointless but it's not that concerning to me, I'd care more of they removed them altogether.
I've actually gone from '' f it I am probably going Reaper '' to being very likely to sticking with MNK, SAM and GNB.
I really liked what I saw.
Anatman was shown on Yoshi's hotbars when he demod monk. What it does is yet to be seen.
Imo, MNK seems more interesting now. The system uses the yin and yang (Light and Dark Sect schools in the MNK's storyline) for Blitz (which was in the forums somewhere with the psuedo-ninja mechanic). It also unlocks Chakra at an earlier level, and the dashes is a nice Quality of life change that no longer has to be dumped for purely DPS. 3 Dashes is like 3 Aetherial Manipulations, so it's most likely that Endwalker becomes even more mechanic heavy that it requires all this mobility.

Although it's targeted, the dash seems more reminiscent of Dancer than Black Mage to me.Imo, MNK seems more interesting now. Don't be fooled by animation, Aetherial manipulation also uses a target to teleport to a player. DNC's dash doesn't allow a target, but it's just a dash to a certain distance based on where you face.
The Dash Monks get is a bit more flexible because it can also target enemies and allies alike, but doesn't dash based on where you face.

The new dash skill is 100% welcome to me. I didn't like using my only mobility option for damage, so I appreciate that they gave it a damage-less gapcloser to cement it as the quick footed fighter.

I am not certain about it yet, but I like the look of the Monk changes... It looks like Monk will see some improvement, and the blitz gauge should make Monk feel less empty... I think that it looks like good changes, on that half.
I am less certain about the positionals removal, though... just two for now, but it worries me that the dev team has shown that they have the will to removal positionals...
Last, The new Blitz mechanics and Blitz gauge looks good, but I still want to see a change to the Chakra gauge, a change from five to either seven or fourteen chakra, and more along the lines of the fourteen Chakra of light and darkness lore, as seen in the Monk story... The Blitz looks good, but the Chakra seems to remain boring and simple.
[...]A much better thing to do with a large amount of actions, too many for a player to use all of the actions, is to create in-class diversity. ...hieh.. my disappointment finds it mind-blowing stupid that FFXIV never did this, and has always done that delete actions nonsense, instead.[...] ------------ [...]"I want you to lower me down into my coffin... so that you can.. let. me. down.. one. last. time." - 6.0 Dark Knight[...]
[...]"...you want to know.. why I chose to abandon the abyss for the void? ...It is simple. That power of darkness did fail me, so I chose to embrace a new power of the darkness...." - Anahlise, a Reaper[...]

While I know that the changes arent funtionally bad, and that other people will like them, I can't help but be disappointed.
What I loved about mnk will be cut content by 5.0.
Meanwhile a brand new skill is using a recycled purification icon...
