???? ffxv sold for 8.9M copies, probably already more than 9M now. It sold for 5M copies on launch day.Would you prefer to pay $80 per expansion and $20-25 sub fees instead? Because how else do you think Square Enix will justify the costs to develop content? Video game development costs have risen exponentially throughout the years. For reference sake, FFXV reportedly cost $600,000,000 million. To point that into perspective, at $80 for per game, FFXV needed to sell 7.5M copies world wide just to break even. It didn't... but was financially successful according to SE. How? DLC and micro-transactions.
What this boils down to are three options. Customers either accept drastically higher prices at retail, micro-transactions or the overall quality of games brought down to manage cost because no corporation is just going to eat costs like this.
Did it? I stand corrected then, though with that report being old. I do wonder if their costs went up. Either way, the crux of my point still remains.
It's only "degraded" if you view it that way. Personally, I couldn't care less. I've used my "degraded" carbuncle for ages because I think it's cute. Good enough reason for me, really. It isn't about people being forced in any way, its more about the fact that cruise chaser is now forever degraded as "oh look, its the mogstation mount as a boss, how unoriginal". And it clearly should have been at the very least either a TEA or Rival Wings reward.
I seriously hope that turning Bosses into Mounts wont become more and more of a thing. But i would clearly welcome the idea if normal Enemies could become as such, i am still hoping for a rideable Banemite.

People always mention the interview, but I've never actually seen a direct source for it or an article or anything about it, Just peoples memories and guesstimates to when it was, I'd love to actually SEE it. I wanna believe people at face value, but twitter actively teaches me otherwise.I did as much digging as humanly possible to look into this and couldn't find anything more than what was said at the first EU Fanfest in 2014 (timestamped, and the talk goes on for like 4 minutes about this). Nothing is said about all profits from the optional items will be put back into the game, but it is stated that the funds can be used to put more into the game. I recommend watching it since my paraphrasing isn't that great.

Sorry for the lateness, I had to write a disciplinary for a sailor who decided to break curfew.

Sorry for the lateness, I had to write a disciplinary for a sailor who decided to break curfew.Ah, I see the mistake I was making, I was only looking at live letters, not fanfests. Thank you both for providing these! I'd been looking for this for a while now off and on whenever I saw people mention Yoshi-p saying this, it's nice to finally have the context.I did as much digging as humanly possible to look into this and couldn't find anything more than what was said at the first EU Fanfest in 2014 (timestamped, and the talk goes on for like 4 minutes about this). That game is a terrible example tbh, FFXV was a developement disaster. That game was in developement for 10 years and for 6 of those years it most likely did nothing but eat up money.Would you prefer to pay $80 per expansion and $20-25 sub fees instead? Sorry but $600,000,000 are roughly ten times more than the development costs of an AAA-title. The joke is, the marketing(!) costs are usually higher than the development costs. When a company needs $600,000,000 for a game then something went really really really wrong.Would you prefer to pay $80 per expansion and $20-25 sub fees instead? My goodness. 54 pages of this noise.
Out of curiosity, do the complainers throw rocks at people pulling out of Porsche lots? Maserati dealerships? How about Lamborghini?
No? Well, why not? I mean, after all, those purchases affect you directly - that's not up for debate. The new owners often drive their sportscars very fast, thereby endangering other drivers; higher priced super-cars demand obscene insurance premiums, raising the median rate, and thus allowing insurance companies to charge you more; a lot of the land rovers and 100,000 dollar mega-trucks of the world aren't particularly environmentally friendly vehicles, either. The negative impacts are there... so where is that collective outrage?
Could it be that you know to mind your own business IRL? That you acknowledge - at least on some level - that we live in a free society where people are able to make decisions regarding their money without you deserving of any form of input? Might you - and I know this is a stretch - potentially experience some level of shame in trying to dictate their behavior? Much less ruin their good time?
If the answer is yes, then why can't you keep your nose out of it here?

Did a quick Google search as I don't know anything about cost to make and run an MMO but it says 150m to 500m to be set aside to start an MMO so if you think about it they had to make TWO MMO's not just one because of the disaster of 1.0Sorry but $600,000,000 are roughly ten times more than the development costs of an AAA-title.
