Either way I'm all for business having the freedom to do what they want, If they want to sell it on a shop. That is well within right to do it. Consumers we can say we are displeased, but as long as we keep paying and sticking around. Our displeasure means nothing to the company. As it should not. Who cares if we are unhappy? We are going to the moon in Endwalkers and in FF4 it was used for that purpose. So if they are referencing FF4 in Endwalkers then would make sense that the whale would take us to the moon. Could be wrong but given how they reference other FF games its a strong possibility.

I would say probably not. You have to remember this is a themepark MMO in Final Fantasy. The preorder bonus is FF4 related (minion), the whale is FF4 related. Heck even the WoL PLD outfit reminds me of Cecil.

I don’t have a horse in this fight, but in this particular instance the model had been used as a mount in rival wings already. So it wasn’t simply a boss model.

Yeah I guess so. Although kinda fitting given DRK was introduced with HW. But there is more FF4 references with EW I feel than what they did in the pre order.

I guess I find all the anger about cash shops in general to be misplaced. I played FFXIV briefly years ago and recently came back, but did play other MMOs in between. In the five years I wasn't playing, my sub price did not increase. I can guarantee that in the many years this game has been around, costs have gone up. And, people need to remember, Square Enix is not your buddy, it's a for-profit company. If they don't make enough money on a game, it gets cancelled. So, they have made the same calculation as WoW, the other big pay-to-play MMO. Instead of increasing your sub price, they've added a cash shop. Personally, I was originally against cash shops at all, but I'm at that point where I'd rather keep my subscription price lower and then just buy an extra thing now and again if I want it enough. I think it's naive to think that there aren't going to be additional player costs in a world where inflation is a thing.

Yes, you could argue about whether a specific mount should be in the cash shop or not, and whether the price is reasonable, but SE made that same calculation. They made a mount they thought people would buy, so they cash-shopped it. Ultimately, there are lots of great mounts you don't have to buy, so I'm fine with it. Personally, not going to buy it, but don't have an issue if others like it enough to buy.
