I would absolutely not be even a little interested in this.

This, I might be willing to try, but I'm thinking more like how they run "World vs World" in Guild Wars 2. It's basically a PvP mode where you have a huge zone, and you capture camps and forts, build up their defenses, run supply caravans, etc. It's not about quick "matches" between small parties, but more of a perpetual war zone that only resets once per week or so.

We already have rules about that which people are pretty loud about the fact they're strictly enforced so it's not like they don't work.

The ability to have a cathartic virtual killing to prove to yourself (you are proving absolutely nothing to anyone else) that you were right, is not worth the griefing potential.
I have left other games over it and if it ever becomes a staple in this game I will leave this one too.

Open world PvP would make people nicer?

May I ask, from which planet doth thou hail?

I remember thinking this is what Frontline was going to be before it came out in 2.3: a non-queueable open-field zone that had a sort of "everything goes" theme to it.

It wouldn't, really. In this game, the community would largely avoid open world PvP and those who wanted to engage with it would just wait until they outgear the competition to come around and annihilate people without the ability for recourse. Mix that in with the mandatory .5s delay on every input, the inevitable situation of SE being demanded to balance open world PvP which would presumably use PvE class kits so they can function in the PvE aspect of that game area, it'd just create a development mess for a piece of content people wouldn't participate in en masse and would basically already be DoA. Even in games where there is open world PvP, most people tend to just avoid it in the first place to accomplish their tasks while, from time to time, a max level player comes into the zone to sit on a house and one shot questing players. Not to say I don't like PvP experiences in MMO's, but I do understand the XIV community is not a community that'd willingly engage with it just based on how the game is designed and the types of experiences it tries to offer, and I think the time spent to include it would be a waste of resources best put somewhere else.

Especially when SE hasn't proven they understand how to use this game to create a genuinely engaging, unique, PvP experience that offers adequate rewards. They're still trying to get there, as the revamp for Endwalker is more or less proving, even if it's likely going to be the last effort I'd imagine they'd make unless this game's PvP community became a lot larger and more vocal. But it's very clear it's never been a priority for the development team, and is probably at best, considered a side spectacle to the main event.

In games designed around open world PvP with open world PvP incentives and a full community understanding of that being the point of the game, it works a lot better. But taking a, generally, solo MMORPG experience that heavily leans towards casual story progression intermixed with the normal difficulty completion of PvE content, it'd just piss off everyone because no one's playing XIV for that experience.

I don't really see what the issue would be with completely optional wpvp- thing is though, I kinda feel like if they added it, it wouldn't get used.

It generally seems like in every mmo I've played- the players that are really well geared, roam with friends, play the stealth class and/or are on the faction with superior numbers love wpvp- and everyone else loathes it. If it's optional, it ends up dead- if it's not optional, it ends up whittling away numbers until it ends up dead. Something like BDO has a system to punish ganking so that limits it, but that'd require SE to develop a wpvp system that wouldn't fit particularly well into the game that either wouldn't get used much, or if forced would be absolutely despised (with good reason) by everyone that doesn't like wpvp.

I mean, there is a place for duelling if you really want to fight someone and they want to fight you- but nobody uses it so it pretty much sends the message that players don't really want to use it- not to mention the pvp we have is balanced for gear/skills, while wpvp would be quite broken.

I think a better case could be made for expanding on the pvp available with more varied gamemodes, but I don't think an optional wpvp mode would see enough use for those who want to use it to ever really get to actually see wpvp- you'd probably go considerable amounts of time without ever seeing other flagged players.

Before Open World PvP I would suggest a Duel option. Outside of towns ofc as towns are already packed as it is.

I doubt it's very well known but you can duel at The Wolves' Den without queuing for anything, so they deliberately didn't allow that outside of there.

How exactly open world PVP settle players dispute and take care those certain PFs?
Let's say someone post an adult RP PF and you don't like it, then what? You send them tell to meet you and duke it out, you kill them, and then they stop making those PFs? Is that how you imagine it's gonna go?
    Really now...

You don't send a request, you just locate them and make playing the game pain until they stop with their pf nonsense.
