We DON'T know the story, though. They take the elements and focus them through the XIV lens and give us something entirely new. Eden might have echoes of VIII, but has a unique story relevant to the XIV universe. And Ivalice has echoes of Tactics and XII, but it follows neither of those stories exactly. Stormblood had huge references back to VI, but nothing how they were used in that game except maybe Phantom Train and the cutscene after it. The thing that makes Endwalker exciting with IV references is just how they're going to incorporate elements but also make it different and fit XIV.

I have never touched FF Tactics or XII, and I had no problem following and enjoying the story. It was not a masterpiece (though I think between Return and Save the Queen the overall writing got much better), but it was no better or worse or more or less hard to grasp than previous Alliance Raids and exploration zones.
It has been ages since I played it, but if I recall correctly I was turned off by all the info it just dumps on you in rather long and boring cutscenes. I guess maybe it's far more popular among tactics & XII players because that info is more like a refresher for them, but for me at least it felt like a lot of poorly presented contextless fluff.

I like reading and I like this games lore and story, and still my eyes were glazing over at some points. As I said, I don't hate it or anything, but I doubt I'll ever really get the love some people have for it either.

Good restaurants don't really have that extensive and varied a menu though... they'll offer a reasonable selection within their area of expertise but will still generally focus on one type of food. Not that I disagree with the point, I'm just being pedantic about the analogy

I've played through Tactics and I didn't care for the rather long and boring cutscenes either, and not just because little of what I liked about Tactics was brought into FF14.
Half the time I was all "I know this, get to the point where I play," only for the playing to be strongarmed into an extended fetchquest to get overpriced wine for an unpleasant NPC.

Hi, I am also one of those who was happy with the Return to Ivalice story. The twist really made it interesting for me. Adding Bozja put a new arc in Ivalice which is ok with me. I am sad that the story is no longer continuing. I hope the development team reconsider. Probably have an arrangement with Matsuno to actually end the story so that there wouldn't be any dangling story.

All of this. I usually like and absorb worldbuilding stuff but somehow Ivalice feels impenetrable. Lots of tell-not-show and half the information they give you adds nothing to what you need to know for the story itself.

I think "too many moving parts" is the best way to sum it up. Lots of names and places without any visual concept to pin to them.

Unless it's somehow critically important that this event has happened in future story, I'd really like to see that bit shifted into a sidequest. It's totally disconnected from the rest of the plot.

I wish Ivalice didn't end the way that it has. Even the field note is very open ended. I do hope we get to see anyone on the Garlean side of things that didn't die again. Even with reading the field note it felt like we would be getting a third part to the story. I don't like that Yoko Taro is getting a Q&A section coming this LL, but I guess he needs to cheekily confirm or deny things about the raid. I do wonder what exactly was cut from the "ending" of the Ivalice stuff. Heck there is so many well we didn't see a body in the ending did we. It's not like the ending to the Weapon storyline where we not only heard and saw a sickly pop and thrown away like trash.

I like Matsuno's work even though I didn't finish Tactics, XII or XII rival wings as he can be very wordy. Yet he knows how to build worlds and make them very interesting. I might not like the Garleans, but it was interesting that they allowed Matsuno to make the Glaug be the ancestors to the Garleans. Or at least strongly hint at that. He managed to take his own lore and change it enough to have it fit and mostly make sense in the world of XIV. Unlike the Nier stuff where even though I know and understand most of the lore from that universe I still went what the heck and disliked the stuff we got in XIV. I do think part of the reason why is due to what players thought/felt would/might happen in the story and for rewards didn't match up to what we ended up getting.

Yet, even with those expectations accounted for based on what Yoko Taro tends to do ect it still felt like someone whacked me unconscious, robbed me, stuck soap into my mouth and then drew a lewd picture on my face with a permanent marker. I had to watch Aetherite Radio's episode that had Moose on for it to make sense and like it a little more. I didn't have to do that with Ivalice. Except I still don't buy the whole oh the auracite told me to stop being a racist jerkwad that happened with Ramza in the third part of the alliance raid.

I was not really a fan of the story-telling in any of the Ivalice-related stuff, with the raids feeling mostly like a huge exposition dump that was largely a retelling of events from FFT/FFXII, and Bozja was just kind of a mess to me in general for multiple reasons, among them Mikoto's pointless Echo visions and the supposed moral ambiguity of the conflict falling flat when Gabranth has several war criminals amongst his ranks.

Seeing as how this was my favorite raid series (including the sequel in bozja) I'm sad to see it over, but I'm glad we got to experience it. I wish him the best in what comes next.

They're never continuing the Bozja storyline?

Great! Then I'll never have to force myself to do Bozja! Or even try to look up on YouTube someone who did!

I wonder what happened? It seems very mysterious. Also a little bit unprofessional for the dev/story writer to post like that on twitter.
