Actually running DR as a Ninja, and yea I'm pretty much only using Lost Cures to keep myself and occasionally others alive when no one else is healing. I'm not really a fan of the barrage of gimmick actions I'd have to sort through, and I don't have enough of the good ones to use them every single DR anyways. I'm 100% in it for the relic and only the relic.
It is easy to get essences, and I get you are just for the relic but your reason for being is moot. You be willing to do the bare min of just running around to get essences to speed up the process for everyone including yourself.
