If I order a ham & cheese sandwich, see them make one and then put in a blender, spill the contents on a plate and get it handed over to me: I will not "just deal with it". I will f***ing complain.

While that's reasonable enough, I expect some sibilance of industry continuity. Instead of getting a ham sandwich, they seem to be giving me all the ingredients to my friends and expect me to prepare it myself. The point is, this is weird and seems to be different just for the sake of being different.Thats right, if you wanted the sandwhich prepared your way, then you should have made it yourself. By asking for help to make it, you need to accept that the person making it can't read your mind, so they will make it the best way they know how. You have no idea what stipulations they are under with the game coded the way it is.
I'm not going to quit the game over this, but I don't exactly appreciate this sort of treatment. And I should hope they offer an explanation for the strange divergence. Its their game, they can do whatever they want, however they want and if a player doesn't like it, no one is forcing them to pay to play. And I am more than willing to bet that in the coming weeks, with the number of people on here crying about it, they will actually offer some explanation as to why they have done things the way they have.
And here we go. Because I don't have a problem with whats going on, I am immediatly a blind fanboy? Why don't you take the time to read other posts I have made about the game before mouthing off ignorantly about some blind devotion you seem to think I have to a corporation? I completely understand that not everyone is going to be happy with the way things are done, but like I said, the XI system and the XIV system are 2 completely different games, coded in 2 completely different ways. I am sure that there is a reason they have done things the way they have done them here. My ability to face reality and adjust my plans accordingly doesn't make me a fan boy, it make me grounded and able to cope with things I have no control over. BIG difference.Actualy that type of merge would work better in XIV since it wont have a chance to overpopulate end game HNM camps as mergers did in XI, seing as XIV engame is 90% instanced (10% stronghold rest is moogle/Ifrit).
I like SE as a game dev, but that doesnt force me to became a blind fanboy and agree with every decision they make, this merge system obviosly has flaws since alot of the community are now complaining and having worries about it and trough the forums we are voicing our opinion on the matter.
A ham sandwich is a personal service - something prepared for you that meets your personal needs.
This server merge is a service to the community. It will effect thousands. Thousands of people are not individually in the same situation, do not have the same desires and cannot collectively be pleased.
Fail analogy. Next please.
That's even worse!A ham sandwich is a personal service - something prepared for you that meets your personal needs.
This server merge is a service to the community. It will effect thousands. Thousands of people are not individually in the same situation, do not have the same desires and cannot collectively be pleased.
Amazing, you people begged and pleaded for a world merge/transfer and now bitch about the manner in which SE provides it? You do realize that if they could have done this a better way they probably would have right? You all really think they sat around thinking up ways to create this that would best screw you all? Thats like asking for help and then questioning the manner in which its provided. Face facts, many of the people that are "taking a break" aren't coming back. And for those that I hope do return, if its so important for them to keep the character they have made but took a break on in the same world as their friends, they can pay a sub fee like the rest of us and CHOOSE where they want to go in March.
Also, with as fast as it is to level up as well as the additions they are adding to make crafting easier, it really isn't that big of a deal to make a new character and get it up to where their old one used to be in fairly short order. Especially if they want to play with friends that I am sure are more than willing to help them do so. I just text 4 of my friends right after reading this to let them know about this, and most of them are gonna pony up a sub fee for one month so they can choose for themselves where they want to go. Seriously, not a big deal folks.
My thanks to SE for finally providing us something we have been asking for for a while now.

Dumb people will be dumb people.
YoshiP made a long post on why he decided to go with this option rather than other options available... hopefully Bay or Rukki can post the translation soon.
This isn't a matter of intellect. It's a matter of opinion and preference.
Thank Halone!
if they blend it its no longer a sammich though
the better example would be them making the sammich with mustard when you dont want mustard, but you didnt say how you wanted the other stuff in it so they decided for you
in the end that is exactly what we are getting too
we asked for a merger, and since everyone argued about how they wanted it done, they are leaving it up to us to choose how we go along with it now
