Housing is an example of this game's community wanting everything handed to them, yes, but it's not the only example. 99% of people in this game do not want to put effort into anything. They won't even bother to learn how to play their own classes and if they can't clear something while mashing random buttons then they cry that it's too hard and needs to be nerfed. The housing uproar is just another symptom of the underlying problem, the fact that this game is overrun with lazy toxic casuals who can't be bothered to even put forth the tiniest bit of effort into anything.

Sitting in front of a plaque with 5 other players and just spamming the purchase requests praying some dingus not to just relocate on that spot obliterating your invested time is NOT effort.

Because you had an easier time compared to other players in a housing roulette doesn't mean that experience is shared by most.
Nobody's forcing you to stand there spamming a placard. In fact, you don't even need to do that. Last time I bought a house that way, I didn't stand at the placard for any more than 10-15m at a time. I would click for a bit, go run a dungeon or something, or two, then click for a little bit, rinse and repeat. When the house was finally ready for purchase, I was there, and it was mine.

The invisible timer is bad and should be made visible so that people can plan properly. But other than that the housing system is fine. It's exclusive and limited and that gives it a nice sense of prestige and specialness that I appreciate. All you need to do is be vigilant and willing to put in the effort to get what you want.
