This is an example of playing housing wrong. You get very little benefit from camping extended periods. Just house hunt for an hour a day or something. You’ll enjoy the game way more, wont be frustrated, and will get a house in the end.

I'm with you here. Completely agree that the timer is a big issue. It stopped house flippers from selling private homes but it replaced that problem with something else. It wasn't a fix. Just a swap of issues.

Not with you here. As the pandemic is progressing more and more people I know are losing their jobs. It's actually becoming very difficult to find work because the job market has shrunk quite a lot but the amount of people needing work has risen. It doesn't help that those who think the precautions we must take during the pandemic somehow don't apply to them are ruining any hope of controlling the virus before we get a vaccine. Every time I read about surges that happen after restrictions have been lifted I get so angry because so many think less restrictions = no restrictions. But that subject is a totally different topic.

COVID isn't the only reason autodemo is suspended at this point. We've had 3 cat3+ hurricanes so far, the riots in the US, the dam breach, wildfires in western US, shit tons of flooding. Have you just not been reading the news? And that's ONLY in the United States, let alone elsewhere.

Are you sure it got purchased or did someone move into it? If someone moved into it then it wouldn't have mattered at all whether you were at the keyboard or not. You can usually tell the difference because when someone moves their old plot the house is placed pretty much immediately and their mini-aetheryte is automatically placed right in front of the door to the house. Someone buying it will take a few moments at least to install a house since there are some house selection options they have to go through, a mini-aetheryte is not automatically installed, and when an aetheryte is installed it won't be centred perfectly right in front of the door because people just don't do that.

Because it would be a very bad move for SE to punish players who have the misfortune to be unable to log in due to a global issue that isn't their fault. It would be a really bad look for pr. Really really bad. The last thing SE want is to be known as the company that takes your stuff away because you're not part of the lucky group who haven't been hugely negatively impacted by a global pandemic. Additionally I like to think SE do this out of both compassion and business. Everyone knows about the delays we have had with content releases because of covid. SE know very well how the pandemic can impact professional and personal lives.

Also it's pretty...icky...that some people want to take advantage of a pandemic so they can get a digital house in a game. Not saying you do but some people clearly do.

Players should be pushing to improve the housing system itself. Not asking SE to forget about the pandemic and put demolition back on.

Anyway even if they put demolition back on we still have a major shortage of houses. Demolition has always been at best a band-aid fix. Like most aspects of the system. Sigh.

Sorry, but the demolition timer needs to be reenabled if SE isn't going to create a housing supply that meets demand. People have had 7 months to straighten out their real life situations to the best of their ability. Either they're stable and able to resume playing, or they won't be returning for a long time to come and a virtual house in an online game is useless to them.

Because SE created an awful housing system that is punishing a huge amount of players whether demolition is on or off.

Yes it is bad pr to do things as they are now but no matter what SE do it's bad pr. Why? Because their housing system is bad. Their housing system is literally bad pr.

However we have no way of knowing how many players are no longer paying for their sub. A lot of people who aren't logging in are overworked, not without a job or a home. Almost everyone I know in the medical field barely has time to watch a movie never mind play a mmo.

This is extremely unfair to say and it's clear you haven't thought about this much. What makes you think anyone negatively impacted by the pandemic has had 7 months to sort themselves out? I know people who lost their jobs due to covid just this month. I know others who lost them more than two months ago and cannot find any work. A friend of my family went to icu with covid only three days ago. He doesn't play FFXIV but if he did, well he certainly hasn't had seven months to sort out his life since covid had a huge negative impact on him.

Again, you’re the one who’s doing it wrong. There’s little difference in the time it takes to get a house between camping 15h straight and camping 1h a day for 15days.
The problem is that most people are like you and never stop to think about it. They end up doing crazy long sessions and get frustrated then complain about it on the forums.
Meanwhile, the player that does 1h stints and only bothers with plots that have been up for at least a little while (say 12h) gets lucky one day and sends another enraged player to these forums.

The reality is that if you camp 1h a day, statistically you’ll get a house faster than a mentor will get his mount with the same amount of time. Almost 10 times faster actually.
Housing is accessible and isn’t even close to the most time consuming feature in this game. People are just doing it completely wrong. The amount of people I see camping plots in shirogane on a regular basis on my server is appalling and completely demonstrates what I’m talking about.
