Unlike those other projects though, FFXVI is litterally the same dev team as FFXIV. Creative business unit 3.You do realize that Square Enix has released over 200 games since the release of FF14 1.0? Why do you suddenly think that FF16 is any different?
I swear, not a single one of you who complain about this have any understanding of the way business works. Income coming in from all the games released in any given year provides SE with the resources to continue to produce new games. Resources are not 'leeched off', they are allocated to new and on-going properties so that the company can remain in business.
I can absolutely guarantee that Blizzard spent money they received from World of Warcraft on Hearthstone, Starcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. It's not robbery. It's standard business practice, to ensure the survival of the company.
Yes, you've paid for FF14, but it is entirely at the discretion of the business units to determine who works on it, and how much money goes into it in any given year. You pay a subscription for FF14, and your support ensures the business unit that they can continue to work on the next expansion. You have the option to stop paying for a subscription if you're that dissatisfied with 'return on investement' as a player. If enough players do that, the game is put on life-support (Final Fantasy XI) and/or canceled (Wildstar).
This is definitely something interviewers should ask Square enix, specifically Yoship. Because if we're getting less hair styles, dungeons, no hats/helmets for Viera/hrothgar because they're working on FFXVI that's eventually going to get exposed. They might as well come out and say it now rather than later when all that information will be in the XVI game credits and other sources.
Same business unit. Different teams.
From Wikipedia entry for Square Enix.
Creative Business Unit III is led by Naoki Yoshida who was the head of Business Division 5 and focused primarily on MMORPGs, transitioning in 2020 to the single player Final Fantasy XVI. It mainly comprises the former Business Division 5 (Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon Quest Builders series).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Yoshida always saying about how they're understaffed, but they can't find sufficient developers who meet their needs?
If they can't find more people to work on XIV then getting an entire new team for XVI does seem unlikely. Logically it would make sense that they'd be using people they already have (although admittedly that doesn't mean they'd necessarily all come from the XIV team)
