This may be a troll thread but I thought this when it was pointed out Yoshida was working on another FF project. Whether it's true or not I won't be surprised either way.

From someone who works in the game industry, it's PAINFUL how little people understand about development teams for projects. -_-
The FFXIV team is NOT the same team as the FFXVI team. That's not how it works. And if you don't think they brought in people specifically for FFXVI, you are reaching in an attempt to whine about FFXIV.

To be fair I dont think most people actually know how game development actually works. I'll guess most people just get 2nd hand information and run with it, or one company works 1 way; therefore all companies work the same. From someone who works in the game industry, it's PAINFUL how little people understand about development teams for projects. -_-

But yeah, even though I added to the conspiracy abit, yknow people like to fish for reasons

Yeah, it's been really frustrating seeing how many people have been whining about the new games lately without understanding any of the process involved in developing a game. From someone who works in the game industry, it's PAINFUL how little people understand about development teams for projects. -_-

What did happen though is that after Heavensward, some of the lead developers did move from Final Fantasy XIV to Final Fantasy XVI. Hiroshi Takai (Asssitant Director), Mitsutoshi Gondai (Assistant Director), and Kazutoyo Maehiro (Lead Writer) took a step back in the development of Final Fantasy XIV and became its Development Supervisors onwards. Hiroshi Takai became the director for Final Fantasy XVI while Kazutoyo Maehiro is assumed to be the Lead Writer for it. Ryota Suzuki, who was a Battle Director for Capcom, was also hired for the Final Fantasy XVI project so they're not exactly taking everyone from the Final Fantasy XIV team.
In hindsight, Kazutoyo Maehiro taking a step back also allowed some of the younger developers like Natsuko Ishikawa to step up and take the Lead Writer role which resulted in what we have in Shadowbringers (best story in the game in my opinion). Game development do be like this sometimes.

To be fair not every game company in the world functions the same. Much less so for companies here in asia. Of course the ideal outcome would be hiring/getting a whole new team but as you know company are for profits and if they can cut cost they will cut cost. From someone who works in the game industry, it's PAINFUL how little people understand about development teams for projects. -_-

You work in the game industry you should know well about this, or maybe western companies function differently? People here can work up to 14hrs a day or more and it's normal. Some even just sleep and stay in the office for 2 to 3 days. Westerners would cry foul and all but here? It's normal work day.
I would like to very well believe that it is a different team of course. But with all the issues 5.X has brought currently, you can't help but feel that there is something up. Also, don't forget that HW expansion they actually borrowed people from different division to work on it.
What makes you think SQEX won't do it here? Unless of course you have the evidence to back it up.
Look, before you go judgmental on people remember this, we all love FFXIV and we want the best for it for many years to come else nobody would bother to take the effort to even post here.
If you still don't believe me that content & features has been dropping the past few years, take a look at 3.1 - 5.3 trailer, i'm sure the video can speak many words.

Being stuck with one project forever is going to burn people out... badly...

@OP
I believe you.
This game seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper, next expansion should be the worst so far.
Rumors did spread about Yoshida working on a secret project, now we know that is Final Fantasy XVI which has a remarkable resemblance to FFXIV, at least parts of it since it also looks very much like Final Fantasy XV, it looks rather shabby to me.
Business Division 3 has been working on FFXVI for 3+ years. They are a separate business division than Business Division 5, which handles FFXIV, XI, and spinoff games from the MMO universe.
In the recent past, Square-Enix reduced its total number of business divisions, consolidating 3 and 5 under Yoshi P. They're still two different offices, and two different groups of developers with entirely different product and resource allocations, but they exist under one management lead, Naoki Yoshida.
Anybody who has been following Square Enix's structural developments since April 2019 is not surprised by any of this, this is not new information and most of us have known Yoshi-P was working on FFXVI for a year and a half, just by process of elimination.

Wikipedia is misleading.
Recently, many employees were shifted around as several Business Divisions were closed. Division 1 is Kitase/Nomura, and is handling FF7R. Perhaps what Wikipedia means is that many of the employees of Division 3 were moved over to Division 1 when Nomura finished Kingdom Hearts III.
Division 3 was structurally and functionally a different division at the end of 2018 than it is now. It had studios in Osaka as well as Tokyo and handled Kingdom Hearts, largely. But the people in Division 3 now were not a part of those projects. They have been working on FFXVI since before Kingdom Hearts III wrapped up.
They were FFXIV (14) developers who worked on Heavensward for Division 5.
