I played most FF games, and XIV definitely is one of my favorites, if not the favorite. Next is IX. I'm not sure I could even compare them other than them both having FF elements in them. I also think they are better than FFI, which I thought was a bit bland (probably just because it's old and games were designed in a different way back then).

What I want to say is that I enjoy FFXIV. It's not perfect, but I also don't need it to be more like the other FF games. No need to compare and complain all the time. If I didn't like it I wouldn't play it for years now. To me it's fun, and that's enough. That doesn't mean it can't be improved. But your post is a bit... much.

The first two paragraphs (under Genre Talk) will give you all you need to know about the design philosophy that makes an RPG a JRPG. You will note that Final Fantasy XIV has everything there except "combat is often turn-based" ... which must be what the author is referencing when opining "the design philosophy of XIV is vastly inferior to XI".
Well, in a way, combat in FFXIV is still "turn-based."

"Wait, this game has 2.5 GCD?"

yeah I'm gonna go ahead and say your opinion is pretty much worthless if you think XIV is in any way, shape, or form, simpler than the older final fantasy games.

Yes necessarily. What you stated is just a scapegoat to cover it up. Sorry but, if you actually read what they say all around in present/past threads it makes you wonder - Is this guy serious or not. Some of the stuff said leaves you there like...What? Really? And it's more solidified when it's on an alt account. So, no. For me personally, i don't take anything serious from someone on an alt account.

If someone needs to hide behind an alt, it's because they know their argument isn't strong to begin with.

Lvl 25 talking about game mechanics and end game.

If you got an 80, just post as your 80. Dont be shy and use some lvl 25 alt. Otherwise, why should I take your criticisms even seriously when as far as I know you havent even hit end game, especially considering that we have our typical troll poster who pops in every now and then to repost crap from reddit or years ago on this OF?

If people can't address the points made, then at least stay silent and let others that want to handle the argument do so. All you types do nothing but give credence to the view that this game's community like to react emotionally to any type of criticism about the game instead of dealing with the points raised.

Why should people entertain the talking points of someone who is posting on a lvl 25 alt? And that's giving credit to the poster that it is an alt. The talking points provided are things that can be pulled from half a dozen Reddit or OF posts within the last month or two with a basic search. Pair that with the frequency of our very own forum troll who copy/pastes threads or what not from Reddit or the OF from years ago, why is it out of the question to bluntly tell the OP to not use an alt before breaking down the discussion points in a serious manner so that we can at the very least see the poster has played through the content they are critiquing.

Running to the defense of every poster who writes a wall of text on an alt doesnt actually help discussion. If they want to talk about endgame and the like, they should at the least show their receipts and that theyve actually gotten to it. Otherwise all this does is encourage trolling or chats with people who havent really even gone through the game telling us about what needs to be changed. And I can almost guarantee that both those cases will drum up more toxicity over the long term as we will keep having to have the same conversation over and over and telling sprouts to just play the game before they tell us how the game in all its nature needs to be changed cause "'X' MMORPG does it this way".

It's highly subjective so to each their own, sure. What I personally like, though, and what XIV is severely lacking is a general sense of progression (apart from raiding, maybe). The JP midnight thing seems arbitrary, granted, but at least you are steadily progressing or have something to look forward to. Warframe does pretty much evolve around that. It's nice for my lizzard brain to get a reward after a little wait. lol Beastmen tribes do the same thing.

A little pet peeve of mine is when NPCs say they'll contact you later or whatever and you immediately can progress and everyone pretends you were gone for a few days. But that's just me. But I can understand when people don't like waiting around. But it's not like there aren't other things to do. Oh, and doesn't DF reset at JP midnight? Guess that's a vestige from that.

On the weather front, I strongly disagree. It was part of a strategy to take the day and moon phase into account whether you were fighting or crafting. It was awesome! lol And it really meant something when you were in a snowstorm or at a hot beach. But then again, the overworld posed an actual threat. If anything, it really helps me immerse myself. In XIV, the weather is literally just a set dressing, switched on and off like the white sky in ShB (I will say, though, that it's neat how the weather changes when monstrs like Ixion are around).
