I only complainlike in terms of each class changes they are killing the uniqueness of each class.. in order to balance all the classes in pvp essentially all the tanks are the same.. I liked it when paladins had cover and war were burst tank. that was durning patch 4.0

It works pretty good for close up players and actually as a Black Mage the problem with it is that I often target the one tank heading for my main group instead of the enemy group. It works much better for me on Gunbreaker.

I agree though that targeting is tough and a big part of high dmg total etc. Maybe especially so on a controller, but there are plenty of awesome controller players too. I suspect all the best players are doing something similar to each other related to the control scheme that I don't know about, and targeting is probably a part of it, like some targeting macros or maybe a particular controller setting or something. I feel like I've plateaued as a Black Mage and I would have to fight all match long and not die to get 200-400k damage and I saw some BLM with like 1.5 million damage a few matches ago and while a little inspiring it is also a little discouraging.
Does anyone know/have a macro to target the closest enemy? I appreciate the tips from you (and everyone else) - will have to play around a bit. I have more luck as a ranged DPS but not by much; for whatever reason, targeting in PVE is much easier - even with tons of adds. Might be that it's more forgivable - HP burns pretty fast in PVP. I find when I select 'Ignore Distance' it's no different than 'Cone' as far as targeting goes - with 64 players on a map and 2/3 of them enemies, it's frustrating and difficult to engage in battle in a smart way. I mostly play for EXP and marks, so I don't care much about winning, but I would if I felt I had half a chance in a fight.

The difference between the two options is; the one setting circles/tabs through all enemies from one side to the other side (like left to right), ignoring how far the distance is to you.

The other setting tabs through all the enemies aswell, but it prioritizes closer ones from left to right before switching to the further away ones left to right. It is preferable for melees that didn't get the right close target right away.

It will make no difference if the enemies are all more or less the same distance away.

If you set it up correctly you will have no disadvantage and no lost time with targeting between gcd, it can be really efficient if you know how to. Frontline and 10+ enemies will still be hard to pick the right one yes, but even then you have ways to improve it. Check out the possible targeting macros. And your target filter.

Each job lost some of their signature moves because of Feast balancing; you simply cant have both.
Paladin didn't fully their uniqueness because through out a combination of actions, you still can achieve the cover effect
Warrior is still a burst tank, it is just their burst pacified by the 3 potionss

I haven't touched PVP/Feast since HW, when WAR was able to solo burst healers with the right berserk rotations and stuns. It was empowering knowing that I could carry the team but at the same time help them if needed but that changed. I think newer players going into this are expecting something like deathmatch in first person shooters where you can literally carry a team with pure skill alone but in this game everything is tuned to where you need to co-ordinate. In a mode with no built in voip support, lobbies, no rank decay (no reason to keep playing after you got your spot) and very few updates. PvP in this game is an after thought partly because they saw that WoW has PvP so why not FFXIV. Sadly the execution is so poor that almost half the time you are fighting the jank game mechanics (which was designed around PvE), if not fighting against the players who are just in it for the marks and glamours and throw the match for you. I feel bad for people trying to get to top 100 after the initial rush of the new feast season because they literally have no way to get there outside of "other means".

    Why is PVP not fun?

For the simple fact that SE doesn't give a crap about it and hasn't since FRC.

It's funny that you say that but I hope you're not serious because this is what ruined most MMO pvp communities for over a decade. The people who actually liked that stuff were extremely vocal and could claim companies were just catering to the players who liked PvP the most and played it the most.

It took years and stuff like gamergate before the industry was willing to confront toxicity and the ways it hurt the bottom line, and tiny pvp communities that were gankers paradises were just so obviously one of them. The whole MMO pvp genre has only just begun to recover from years of catering to the wrong players.

There are thousands and thousands of FFXIV players who will never ever even try PVP no matter what cool rewards they come up with because of that era.

Games still do it, therefore it still works. After seeing the utter disappointment that was SINoAlice which let you pay to just be better, it's simple- offering a means to be better is what works.

Objective-based PVP can be a lot of fun but it's less enjoyable than the siege warfare PVP which has become prevalent in newer PVP game modes in recent years.

FFXIV PVP is not fun to me because it's a downgrade from the fun I've had with PVPing in other games. WvW in GW2 promoted competition and it was great fun even when we got demolished by Blackgate, Cyrodill from ESO will always have a fond place in my heart for its persistent, continuous sieging and action combat (I have yet to leave Cyrodill to this day), where Albion Online's open world PVP is greatly enjoyable and the rewards for it feel worthwhile because the game revolves around PVP.

I feel uninvolved in the results of Frontline matches because I'm disconnected from the ability to pick a group which removes the sense of belonging. I wouldn't mind if we got a DC vs DC mode at all, but it would probably be a mess due to how individual servers and DCs tend to crap out.

I enjoy Feast but long queue times and the fact that I can't queue with friends totally kill it for me.
