What do you think 6.0 has in store for PvP?

Maybe it's far to early to make any calls but, what do you think 6.0 PvP will be like? Is it in a place where it could stay relatively the same and be built off of next expac? Or does it need big changes in its current state?

Aside from trying to apply the job changes made for PvE to PvP with mixed success..

I'd like them to make a small scale simple experience that is cheap to develop. Stuff like 16v16 CTF or something. Also maybe see if they can make any changes to existing modes to see if they can be improved; I'd like if Carteneau Flats was a giant crater instead of an elevated position for example but that's just me. Maybe some more Feast maps made from existing resources.

What we'll probably get is a refurbished Astragalos that will last maybe three months tops before it drives into the same ditch as Hidden Gorge, with no further developer support besides occasional events to coax people into playing it.

I don't know how hard it would be to do, but a few hand picked zones like Northern Thanalan, Outer La Noscea and other similiarly unique landscapes could have an instanced version where non-consensual pvp should just be flagged on, and just let the chaos happen. Take notes, let people be 1-80 (90 if that next xpac raises the level to 90), and just observe the forums for feedback and rage and see what people say. That or make a test server on it's on that is based on a non-consensual pvp philosophy with the FATES being the source of contention, who ever "wins" the fate like either by party or FC gets accolade points for their FC based on participation maybe. So even if an FC "loses" they still accumulate accolades. Accolades could be spent on pvp focused FC perks and buffs. Perhaps have pvp only jobs instead of trying to bastardize all jobs/classes into level 30 mish mash versions. Just so sick of current pvp and the boring objectives. Needs some serious rethinking on core levels, just needs something else altogether. Just thinking XIV and pvp are not a good mix.

That being said, even my suggestion is just flailing in the dark like it could be just 1 part of a bigger idea. Same could be said for the pve aspects. Dungeons are getting pretty flippin boring, with the you know, walk down a hall, fight 2 /3 packs of monsters fight a boss in a sqaure'ish room, repeat til it's done. Aside from some earlier dungeons, it's all 3 boss roller coaster rides with none of the excitement of the roller coaster. Maybe just the occasional butt face passenger that stinks up the whole experience here and there.

Maybe I just need another mmo. Kind of sick of the housing situation as well, I have a house, I like my house. But I hate seeing so many thousands of other players begging for a house and getting the same mushroom treatment for years at a time. Blanket excuses like "neighborhood tho!" and "SE wants to limit housing and it's a status thing!" that people tell themselves and others is getting kind bleak and disgusting to read over and over again. Then you see a sudden thing about more wards incoming around 5.4 and SE apologizing for the scarcity. So I get more disgusted with the whole situation the more it goes on. Not just at SE, but also at the people coming to the defense of admitted bad systems vs. over populated areas.

I think everyone would have to be lying to themselves to say PVP is not a horribly butchered shell of what it could be, with relatively simple thought put into redoing it. That is the "Thought" aspect, the untold bajillions it would cost to rebuild it from the ground up is another matter altogether.

To swoop back onto my idea about open world non-consensual pvp, please notice I said a separate instance made available with that flag on, so normal pve gameplay would always be accessible. Any one grief'ing another play because they won't go into the pvp on instance should be reportable with swift justice dealt to them in the form of a (at first) temporary suspension and each repeated offense dealt an increasing level of punishment. I'm not a fan of the idea of permanent bans except under the most grievous of circumstances so a little blah blah pvp or yo mamma is dumb = perm ban is a bad idea. Keep whatever pvp accolades can get from being so OMG over powering that other fc's can't compete if they don't have whatever perks/buffs, but it needs to be noticeable enough. Maybe make it a defensive boost kind of thing. Not so much offensive boosts. I dunno, maybe I'm a horrible person to ask about pvp or give advice on it, but my goodness please change pvp altogether.

It sounds like you actually want to bring back the griefer's paradise dark ages of MMO pvp. There's nothing left to learn and discover from the same old thing. Gank squads will roam the area and people will begin to ignore the area and then even the gank squad types will quit.

One reason the griefer's paradise era ended was because a lot of game company devs had been saying that not a lot of people wanted MMO pvp, and then a new generation of games came out, i.e. DOTA and League of Legends, and became huge huge successes, and the game population of these games that had balanced and reasonably fair pvp is bigger than the audience for MMOs itself. So all those devs that said PVP had to be the way it was and people weren't interested much in PVP anyway all looked stupid at once (much safer for their careers than looking stupid one at a time, at least).

Keep in mind, open world PVP has literally never much been done successfully for long in MMOs. It played out pretty fast in Warhammer and the game was going to die after just the first few months and then they saved the game for a few years with instanced PVP while open world became mostly abandoned.

But if you think you'd like the combo of open world PVP and MMO gameplay, there actually is a major experiment happening now. Amazon's new "New World" MMO apparently is committing pretty heavily to open world PVP.

You could also wait and see because if Amazon, instead of crashing and burning here being a noob gaming company, makes some big innovation that makes open world PVP in a basic MMO type game a good and fun idea again somehow, then everybody will copy them, because open world pvp remains a popular dream that some players ask for over and over, only to walk away when they get the reality of it which generally sucks really really badly.

DAOC did pvp well and Yoshi said he had a fondness for it. Don't understand how it's so much worse here when the most well known PvP MMORPG was the directors fav game at one point. Im guessing the netcode and input lag is partially the reason for it but that's solvable if this server expansion they've been working on occurs

They'll rework all the jobs to fit new bars/skills/passives but hopefully they won't because basing PVP jobs off of their PVE counterparts leaves some jobs feeling bad to play/useless for whole expansions.

And anything else would be a bonus.

Maybe a new front-lines map and wolf mark set.

People just don't want to pvp in this game and SE can not afford to invest resources into gamemodes with low player retention.

I mean, I liked it before the devs gutted most of the things that made it feel like PvP (i.e. made it work) in a desperate bid to get more people to play it.

I’ve given up all hope on dev attention towards PVP. It’s honestly so depressing coming onto the forums seeing all these people asking for changes and yet it never comes. I think I’m actually going to take a break from FF14 because of it. It was a good run yall, I’m tired of being vocal.

I really don't know why people say stuff like this.

Every day on Aether data center, multiple 72 man matches are going at once from 3pm to around 1-2am Eastern time. It's at least ~300 unique players per month, probably more like 500.

Plus PVP content has a unique niche for the game as a business as it's content that keeps people playing between other new content.

Also some of it is just the MMO basics of people chasing rewards. If PVP had a large unique loot table like Eureka etc it'd draw in a lot more people.

Okay now take away the Exp bonus. Then you see the difference between people doing it for PvP and those who do it for the carrot on the stick and don't really care if they win or not.

It is sad when not much changed, despise a wave of suggestions in forum or through public pvp discords. I wouldn't be surprised if they forget to add the new skills for the launch of 6.0 and add them 8 months later because they weren't ready yet. General PvP interest was pretty high after the fanfest tournaments and they sadly didn't build on that enthusiasm. It is hard to be motivated about something, especially as content creators in PvP, if your mode gets less attentions than Lords of Verminion and is way easier to play than Ishgard Restoration and less skilldemanding than a normal difficulty trial.

What do you think 6.0 has in store for PvP?
    • 1 new frontline or rival wings map
    • 2 new feast skills from the lvl 81-90 PvE kit for each class
    • One PvP armor set for wolfmarks
    • 2 new hellhound weapons for the new jobs at patch6.25+
    • lots of reskins of past feast ranked rewards to please the crybabies and to keep dev costs low.

    6.0 would actually need
    • an expanded PvP rank system past rank50 for longterm incentives (unique limit breaks, pvp armor behind min. rank requirement, more trait options or skill options, pvp relic idk there are many ideas)
    • traits for individual class skills, like in 3.x
    • additional skills become all mandatory skills because atm they aren't really optional anyway (and remove that backjump melee skill, holy shyt)
    • get some more skills back from 3.x - job identity skills with actual effects
    • new or one of the old feast maps...........................................................
    • get rid of potions - replace with recuperate
    • allow auto translator in feast chat, I have to mark people and use quick chat repeatably to hope a player gets it that he has to pick up medals in a platinum match
    • more rewards directly for non top100 as a tier reward or indirectly with wolf collar shop system, so people get something for bronze silver gold tier
    • up the wolfmark limit to 50k
    • I dont even wanna talk about skill balancing and bugfixes right now, because it is too specific.
