I absolutely agree with you. I'm very vocal about that.I still think it's ridiculous that SE designed a housing system so wonky that people can just buy up dozens of houses by making shell FCs or whatever other methods people are using. You and others with the time/money (both gil and cash) to buy up a ton of plots can do as much sub farming and gardening as you want while other people can do exactly zero unless they have a close friend and/or FC leader that they trust.
If I could have my main FC (which I dont even own) do all the things I want it to, or if I could do it myself in my house, or apartment (or, let's be honest, through the FC MANAGEMENT INTERFACE WINDOW THAT IS A THING THAT EXISTS IN THIS GAME AND SHOULD BE USED FOR THESE THINGS), I would do that in a heartbeat.
If you can get your alt into the same FC as your main, and you have access to items through the company box, then you can transfer items through the company box. Obviously not the highest end solution, but that's the current way you can sell transfer items between alts, though it requires the same server.
Seeing as they won't even let you check your moogle mail on the same character when you world visit, alts on other servers and DCs won't ever be interacting at all with trading or anything.
As far as getting to skip your alt up to max level really quick and all that jazz, seems to defeat the purpose of an alt to me. I have 5 at Shadowbringers, with 3 at Savage Raiding(though I'm hiatus this tier).
There's a large portion of the playerbase that are altphobic or don't understand alts in general. This ranges from the roleplaying community looking down on RP alts to conventional players looking down on raiding alts. The feeling is the same though, you on your alt are wasting their main's time/effort. A real puzzler for me, since I mean, even if I'm playing an alt I'm still contributing just the same as I could on main, still spending my time too etc. I don't think they're ever going to put in measures to make having alts more desirable.
I would love for achievements to be shared though, but there's probably a programming reason for why they haven't done that, in addition to the idea that some players are teens or even adults sharing an account playing different characters.
The humor was not bad either. I had the plan to return to the game when they have announced they were closing.
I left because at the time, the french community was short and I was more so-so in english than I am now.

Normality is just an average. I'm the weird, you're the bizarre.
My only complaint is not having alts automatically added to my friends list, or at least having the ability to manually add them.
I might have a pen pal in real life that I'll never meet face to face but I'll still be able to send that person items through the mail and delivery services. My alts should be likewise capable of being pen pals with each other even though they can't "physically" meet.
For me alts in roleplaying games are separate "people" and so their achievements should reflect what the individual character has done, not what the player has done. Generally if you've done it on one character, it's easy enough to do on a second (and third and fourth, etc.). Just do them if you want the character to reflect the same achievement and get the same rewards.
Actually, there is one valid reason to have an alt that I can think of. Gearing a tank and healer at the same pace if you raid, so you can do both.
Why are you and others so seemingly worked up about 'valid' reasons for creating an alt? Who cares why someone creates one. It does not matter in the slightest if you can do everything on one character or not. People create alts for a variety of reasons.
Personally, I played one character for a long time before I got tired of her being an au'ra and I wanted to see the story again, got burned out on the mess that was endgame crafting at the time y'know. As this was back in HW and long before new game+, I did the only thing I could and rolled up an alt! The alt became my main as I was enjoying going through the game with her, and I retired my former main for several years until Viera came out. Then I got a bolt of inspiration for a backstory there and re-invented my old character. So now I have a main and an alt I'm looking forward to taking through the revamped story with a brand new identity!
It has absolutely NOTHING to do with retainers, raiding, job leveling, or literally anything else but the fact that I enjoy story and hated HW endgame crafting back then. It's every bit as 'valid' as anything else, and honestly it's not up to you or anyone else (not even Yoshi-P) to tell us why we can and can't have alts to begin with.
More than that, those of us who DO have alts, for any reason, aren't being unreasonable in asking for a couple of concessions to make having them a little easier. Sharing a house and being able to mail stuff back and forth between your own characters will not actually break the game.
I'm still trying to figure out the logic behind this, other than not wanting to bring in another carry over from FFXI.
If you're talking about why people create alts, most common asnwer is — they want to see different characters doing different stuff. It's and RPG, not everyone see their characters as swiss knife. Seeing muscular highlander doing femine animations while wearing a robe with a skirt might look very dumb to someone, but if they want to try a healer, they can create someone more fitting for this kind of job. I have a friend who created and capped 5 different rouges in WoW, just to have different races and transmogs.
Other side of this is that people love questing, once you've reached cap in FF, there is no quests left, game lacks of good amount of sidequests and most of them are so easy, that you can clear a bunch of them in a short time.
No, I'm talking about why SE decided to Fort Knox the concept of alts in this game, which has been a convenient non game breaking thing for the last 20yrs in MMOs, and it's especially a thing in FFXI. I have alts as well, in fact my forum account is of my alt, and it'd be great if I could transfer things between this and my main character.
