Feeling punished for having alts...

And cant even send gil or materials between characters on the same server without friends or a contrived transfer on the market board.

Basic functionalities in other MMO's completely absent from this one... And we are hitting the 3rd expansion now.

Sorry i guess for wanting to play different looking characters without leaving my main behind or having to do most events multiple times, or to not having to think about inventory always filling up because i decided to play more than one job...

Edit 2: Not to mention that you can't make an alt on a server you are on whenever you want due to random server restrictions...

I can't see how you can say you are being punished. The entire game is built in way that you don't have to create alts, unless you wanted to play on a different data centre or with a different character look. Granted, i think housing should be shared across all of your characters on the data centre.

The thing is, even for story replay-ability they have created New Game Plus so more and more there is less incentive for us to create and play alts. Which to me can only be a good thing.

Lots of us have alts. Things outlined in the OP are pretty reasonable. This can all be done on one character line doesn't float. You can't use multiple races on one character so if you want to play multiples you need alts. You also pay extra for additional characters with your monthly sub.

Don't most MMOs that have these features is because one character plays one job/class only, ever? If you want to play something else, you are required to make a completely new character. A lot of other games have market-able gear, too; something else that doesn't really exist in FFXIV outside of crafted gear - until bound. You can also have multiple characters on a datacenter without paying extra, especially with the world visit system; you pay extra if you want them on the same server.

LOL my main has all jobs, crafts and gather leveled...although I've been saving her for last for the 70 to 80 push and it hasn't stopped me from leveling alts. Some I've done taking them through story but more recently I've gotten skips for some of them. I have multiple level 80 toons on Chocobo, Gilgla, Balmung and Siren. I didn't say I feel punished I just said it would be nice and it hasn't stopped me from leveling them because it's something I enjoy.

I also manage to share things with them using FC chests in my personal free companies off server and even on my home world of Siren. The alt hate by some is amusing. It's fine you don't have to create or use them if it's not your thing. I personally don't see any harm in sharing housing (would have stopped many from buying homes for their alts), achievements, minions, mounts and things I purchase from Mog but that's me.

That's the reason I'll never understand how ppl can have the patience to level multiple alts and why I used to be a fantasia addict

I don't want to have to fantasia to use different races I enjoy. I love Viera at the moment and am so happy they're here. I also enjoy my Kitty (who was my Beta toon and who is still with me), my Aura and my main which is an Hyur Midlander. I even have an Hrothgar who will get some love at some time during this xpac cycle.

Currently I have 5 alts on my main's server. I made them all to play different characters, they are all telling different stories. I absolutely do not want them to share any of my main's achievements, levels, Gil, items and so on. They have a lot of the gear/minions already that my main got from subbed days, expansions etc and honestly I wish they didn't. On the other hand, I might suddenly decide one of them really might wear the Squall jacket (unlikely but who knows) so I get why people want rewards to be shared. But I can only second this if it's optional, and that would be a hell of a lot of work each time I made an alt, picking and choosing stuff ....

So at this juncture, I'm choosing no thanks, leave things as they are. Yeah for selfish reasons, but people who are voting yeah are generally voting yeah for selfish reasons too.

If you want to raid more regularly, alts are a must due to the loot system. If I've cleared already, any group I join loses a coffer which is why so many of this insist on two coffer runs. This makes it much harder to find groups hence alts.

Regardless, I don't think the OP's requests are unreasonable.

No, you really can't, because those achievements would no longer exist once the game regarded them as completed. You no longer have the chance to earn rewards once you already have them.

Okay. Slap a label on the achievement that says character x earned the achievement. Now you can RP your character didn't earn them while I can benefit from alts not being such a hassle.

Don't forget coffer limitations in savage. Can't play with friends because of this so had to make an alt I only pull out for savage.

I understand the OP's point. Some of us have a certain level of roleplay to our characters. As an example, I've had two characters in every MMO since Everquest. A wizard and his half brother, a warrior. When I started a couple of months ago, I made the wizard character into a summoner and leveled him to 35. I then figured I'd test out the job system and made him a Gladiator. Though the class seems fun, I hated seeing Khelendrose as a tank of any type. For more than 20 years I have played him as a caster only. So, I made an alt, his brother, as a tank. I just can't fathom running one as both. It is not enjoyable because I have 20 years of history with the two separate characters.

I understand the frustration behind not being able to share resources with alts, considering nearly every other MMO out there does so. At least from a shared bank perspective.
