The RP community tends to centre around certain servers, outside of those servers, if they're doing it in private, I strongly suspect they're doing it that way to avoid trolls. The second most likely reason is they're ERPers...in which case you probably don't want them using /say. They're usually courteous in that respect. And as long as they're doing that, I say "to each their own".

If you're on a server like Balmung where it has a huge RP community, the trolling is much less of a problem, people tend to RP a lot more openly, and similarly, they do on Mateus. One of the reasons Balmung is so big is because it's the oldest RP server, world visit has at least alleviated that somewhat.

The reason places like this are so big is because there is a big hub for RPers and people have tended to nominate servers to start communities in.

But I started out on Gilgamesh, which has a smaller RP community (which was bigger when I started) and you'd attract a lot more in the way of trolls and it'd get annoying at times when you're trying to focus, so sometimes the simplest solution to avoid being harassed is to RP in party, though it's much less viable in an open community, where walk ups might happen.

People love trolling RPers because they think it's a weird hobby or have some misconceptions about RP and RPers, which they also find weird. Some people end up trolling because they don't like seeing RPers in their chat and it's their retaliation.
