How come the msq keeps using big words?

That's why I use the japanese dub. It's so odd that I can understand better what I hear even though it's not my main language than what I read.

Thankfully, the over the top "ye ole' english" characters are actually far and few in between so it's not too bad.

Japanese doesn't typically have "big words". English might have 40 different words to say "strong" because English is a composite of Old French, Germanic, Latin, and Greek. Japanese has some Chinese roots in it. Typically most languages have a few words for the same thing, but English is different. For example, going with puissant (which means strong), we have:

Strong
Forceful
Puissant
Robust
Vigorous
Mighty
Tenacious
Energetic
Stalwart
