Aye, it's true that FF12 isn't FF14 - but the loremaster of the game specifically said they were taking the lore from FF12. Not that it matters much because the only thing they mentioned was that they are muscular, and I need to double-check that. They could indeed be smaller than their females, or they could be taller and/or bigger. Evidence of them taking their lore straight out of FF12 is here;

Well from that quote they said that they take in "as much as possible" so its still open how much that is. They could easily use most of the ff12 for female Vieras and introduce more FF14 only lore for the males.

In the end there is no true description of them in FF14. As long as their look is not comfirmed I see no problem with people wishing on how they look and I dont understand that one hijiacks a race because of that. There is simply nothing there to base it on and no matter what we write SE will decide it on their own anyways.

I would like to point out that there was a side quest in Rak'tika Greatwood where it was implied that a male Viera took out one of the beastkin, a Caracal I think, with a single arrow. The female that was accompanying you remarks that usually it takes a few arrows to bring down that beast. A female Viera wouldn't have a reason to stay in the shadows or otherwise hide themselves, this was also during her own hunt (I think, having trouble recalling if that was a previous quest in the chain or not) and is markedly "fiercer" than the usual number of attacks required to get the kill, also fulfilling the more competitive trait that was mentioned elsewhere (can't recall if that in regard to XIV or XII, but fits either way).

That does not sound fierce to me, it sound more like the males are just better at shooting animals. (I mean realistically you just need one shot if it hits fataly) I remember a side quest where she was saved from a male but said that they have gone hiding again because of the WoL coming to the scene.

In the end female Au Ra can take on enemies that are at a whole different scale and yet they dont look that fierce either.
