I think increasing the required commendation is a good move. That ensures said mentor has done a lot of group content and are more likely to understand whatever dungeon or raid a sprout may wonder about.

Have you seen the thread on how people give out commendations? Usually people don't give it based on skills. They give it based on things like funny names, interactions, and glams. While I'm sure it's intended that the commend system be used to give a little ego boost to the person who did the best, it's certainly not being used that way.
I think the commendation requirement is not too bad. Sure it has it's flaws, but it's a simple way to gate newer players from becoming a mentor, forcing them to invest a huge amount of time in wich they hopefully learn a lot about how the game and the jobs are played and, at least in theory, it is also a quality control, since commendations are meant to be given to players who actually played well.
I disagree with increasing the commendation to 1,500. Say, someone is a DPS main. They enjoy being a DPS way more than healing and tanking, as required to maintain mentor ship status. It's generally not as easy nor in your favor, to attain commendations. Now, tie this into the requirement of running 1,000 instances. I've been playing FF14 since the beginning of this year and am just about to cross 400 instances ran. So, not only do you have to rack up 1,000 instances, which is already a really high standard for new mentors, you have to earn 1,500 commendations. I'm not home right now to see how many commendations I have but I guarantee I'm not even at 700 yet... Probably not even 600 either.
I would've agreed with 650 for commendations but again, the 1,000 instances is already a long venture that isn't something short like the Trade Mentor. If the argument is mentor ship is too easily achieved for "Burger King" / pedestal reasons, then PvE isn't the issue. It's already a long venture just getting the completed instances count alone and now the requirement is to get 1,500 commendations on top of it? I think that's overkill for PvE.
I strongly believe folks are misunderstanding how long it takes to complete the PvE requirements compared to a Trade Mentor.
Your friendly neighborhood gamer.
As someone who got my mentor crown incredibly easily, I have to disagree.I disagree with increasing the commendation to 1,500. Say, someone is a DPS main. Levels don't really matter at all in this game, because of how easy it is to obtain a level 80 class via roulettes, PotD, HoH, and jump potions. Dungeons seem to be the only thing a person actually has to work to achieve the status.
As it stands, mentors are seen as a joke because 1000 instances means ANY 1000 instances.

Commends shouldn't be part of it, but I honestly think that the dungeon requirement is far too easy. Becoming a mentor should require you to complete every dungeon/trail/raid in the game, as well as every extreme (synced) as well as +1,000 dungeons in order to get the crown.
I've always thought the Mentor requirements to enter the NN should be the same as Mentor rou to be honest. So much so I always forget they are different. Would make more sense having seasoned people be in the chat since they all know what they're talking about at a general level if not going into EX.As someone who got my mentor crown incredibly easily, I have to disagree.

I can agree to that. I can't even do the mentor roulette, but I've been a mentor for like.. over half a year now?I've always thought the Mentor requirements to enter the NN should be the same as Mentor rou to be honest. When I first became a mentor, the page of duties I needed to complete was so big that I couldn't see them all. I hadn't even completed every dungeon, and I wasn't done SB.
That is the thing if a player does not leave enough of an impact to warrant someone consciously giving them a commend then that just means in the groups eyes they were not worthy. People sure have their own system in place, I mean for me personally I have maybe given out 100 or so commends during my time playing this game. All making it a requirement would do is further establish whatever person system players use to give commends. Which differs not much from what we have now just makes it so at the very least people could have a general idea of how long it may take if they get one commend per run.Have you seen the thread on how people give out commendations? At the very least the new commendation requirement puts some form of a barrier entry to become a mentor.
If one does not get a commend it means the players actions were not noteworthy enough of a person to sway from their established norms when it came to giving them out. Is that really a problem? In the strictness sense of the word should praise ever be viewed as mandatory?

I don't see the benefit. Are you going to remember them all just because you've done them once? You don't need to know every piece of content in the game to teach someone basic rotations or common dungeon advice or etiquette. The point of the mentor system should be to allow the more experienced members of the playerbase to help newcomers, not to create an exclusive club.As someone who got my mentor crown incredibly easily, I have to disagree.

I'll second this. Just looking at my achievements I see I breached the 1000 dungeon achievement back in 2017, almost 2 years ago. However Comms wise, I'm at 917. Ironically also hit the 500 req in 2017, so I have received 400ish comms in 2 years. Maybe I'm bad. Maybe not.Commends shouldn't be part of it, but I honestly think that the dungeon requirement is far too easy. But here's the real struggle that I come to, it happened last week. Eden Prime normal, you know, small fry stuff. I get in an instance and do the usual greeting and socializing. At the end of the fight, There is a DPS who was rockin it. No mess ups, no accidents. Knew his stuff, and performed like I would hope the others imitated. At the same time, the others were struggling so much, the WHM and SCH were on fire keeping both them up, me up, and everything moving as they should. They were casting their spells, all in all a good trio out of the 8.
But I only get to give one comm. Who gets it? The DPS who stood out above the rest and showed them how to act? The WHM who bene'd at the right moment, who rescued the monk out of trouble? or the scholar who threw down shields for tank busters and did their rotation as they should? Three people deserve these comms, only one gets em.
Or maybe I'm just bad. Clearing savage content, learning how party finder groups do certain fights certain ways and teaching others how, but just not there. I dunno. I agree with the statement of Comms shouldn't even be a requirement if comms are not forced. People probably only do the 5 comms for the challenge log, and they vote anyone who remains because you know people are going to bail when that group gets the guy watching the cutscene at the end and are waiting until the last 30 seconds to roll greed on the weapon they dont need.
