Uh...you've just described pretty much every Western MMO ever. Hell, these things were all popularized in MUD games.

I'm not at all discounting WoW's influence on this game. In fact, I've said many times FFXIV is a WoW clone. But WoW's endgame was completely lifted from EQ, their devs even said so. A few of the early Blizzard devs were EQ raid leaders. That's actually documented. I mean this line here: "You enter a zone, do the main quest (and side quest if you like), complete it, move on to the next zone," is quite literally ever RPG in the history of RPGs. Yet the way you put it, WoW normalized this playstyle.

It was normalized nearly 30 years before WoW.

But it is. See the above. There are things that are emphasized here that are not in WoW, but leveling and end game, it is mechanically and philosophically the exact same thing. The only real, tangible and practical differences between WoW and XIV (that are not aesthetically based) are the complexity of the crafting systems, how alts are handled, the GCD, and the amount and focus of the end game content. Maybe those different flavours are enough for you, but you're fooling yourself if you think this game did not lift the WoW blue print.

Not at all, no. The MMOs that came before WoW played so, so differently, that you probably should classify them in different genres. Blizzard looked at the MMO landscape and said, "Here is everything that should go away," and then created WoW. It wasn't just a polished MMO; it was a complete re-definition of the genre that no successful game has strayed from since.
It was absolutely not. You obviously have never played mmos previous to WoW.

That is really not every RPG in the history of RPGs. I can think of a lot of games that do not follow it. Speaking in MMOs, Asheron's Call, Final Fantasy XI, and EverQuest were all not like that; you went zone to zone but it was more mob grinding without any real quest options (in fact, since we're here, WoW was the first game that moved away from mob grinding to questing as the main source of leveling up). WoW was the first MMO who said, "OK, let's hide the grind behind quests and zone story," which the other MMOs did not do. At all. So, again, in this particular instance, this is not "polishing what was done before," but instead radically changing the way a particular facet (leveling) was done in the genre.

I played Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, EverQuest, and Star Wars Galaxies. All of which predate WoW.

    Try again.

somehow...I knew this thread would cause an explosion...it's like everyone tried to ignore the elephant slapping the back of their heads to stop them from starting this conversation but proceded anyway. The wow clone thing is an old argument that even the anime side of MMORPG had to fight against, just let it go..this was about cross overs not who started what first xD

Ignoring my own dislike for WoW, I really think we're more likely to see a FFVII crossover with FFXIV than we will a WoW crossover (FFVII is SE's flagship game and the one which not only put the series on the map but is still held as the yardstick by which console RPGs are judged by, it's Yoshi's personal favourite FF game, and episode 1 of the long awaited remake launches in March next year).

Not that I would care really if a WoW crossover did happen, as someone else mentioned, if you don't like it, don't participate (such as I never bothered with the GARO, Yo-kai Watch or Monster Hunter events either). I just don't see it happening to be honest, and that a crossover event with FFVII is far more likely than a WoW one.

Why do you have to hate WoW because you play FFXIV?
    Classic identity-by-opposition, I guess?

It often feels like there's a sort of "loyalty test" for XIV since late-ARR and which resurged in SB:

    1. Do you enjoy or have you enjoyed other games in the FF franchise? (If not, no big deal! Welcome to your first FF!)

    2. Do you like action games, or any other than use relative few controls for their complexity, however great that complexity may be? (Hmm, then we may have some problems...)

    3. Have you played other MMOs? (We're glad to see you've become enlightened to their flaws and have rejected them in favor of XIV!)

    4. Oh, you still like some of those MMOs? (Well, we can respect some GW2/ESO lore-love, but WoWtards... Your toxic playerbase desecrates everything you come into contact with...)

Personally I'm not a fan of crossover events but if one were to happen, it happens. I don't like the direction that Blizzard took WoW (why I stopped playing the game after a decade) but I don't hold any hate toward the game in general (been dabbling in Classic when I want a break from FFXIV).

Crossover doesn't mean turn FFXIV into WoW or WoW into FFXIV. It just means taking tiny bit of lore from one game and adding into the other via a non-canon event. Likely it would end up something like the MHW crossover - they got Behemoth, we got Rathalos. It's also cross marketing to expose players to the other game.

Rewards? I don't think glamour would be a good choice since the art styles for gear are far too different. But I could see things like Murky and Moogle minions, or Wind Rider and Magitek Armor mounts.

So do the exceptionally toxic players in FFXIV desecrate what they come in contact with. The FFXIV player base isn't pure. I was running into jerks here back when I first started playing around Heavensward's launch.

Have you considered that you could simply...not do the event if it ever came to XIV ?

What's with people wanting things they don't like to not exist for the whole playerbase ?!

We got items with the Dragon Quest Art Style (Because yes, there was also a FFXIV/DraQue X event, even if whole continents can't play the latter...), it's not that big of a deal
It would be fun to have a murlock minion that makes the iconic noise when an enemy engage you first
