Weird cultural thing from the long list of Xaela tribes defined by weird cultural things.

From the list of tribes on the naming convention page:
The Goro believe horses to be perfect beings, and each male and female, upon their coming of age, is married to a horse of the opposite sex. Reproductive mates are chosen by lots.
As I said, the Dataqi Chronicles goes into this a bit more, but that's all delivered in real time through 'speech bubbles' and temporary NPCs that don't turn up in Garland Tools. I've got screenshots somewhere but I'd need to find them. From memory it's more of a "deep bond" than a romantic thing.

    Lucky for you, I'm obsessive-compulsive.

Also, I think it's worth pointing out again that I prefer to think of a "tribe" of miqo'te as a collective noun for a group of loosely related families, all of them sharing a common ancestor.

This is not a difficult concept for East Asians to grasp, as many of us carry the same family name, even if we're not directly related. The most common surname in Japan, for example, is Sato. But that doesn't mean that all Sato are cousins. In fact, most of them are barely related.

How does this impact that way I look at the R' siblings in the Moonfire Faire stories, for example? Well, firstly, I don't assume that the R tribe has collapsed. I simply take it that the particular family of the two siblings had gone through difficult times, but there may well be another family of the R tribe that's still thriving out there somewhere.

Now, this is by no means canon, as there is as yet nothing in the game to confirm this. But there isn't anything to explicitly contradict it either. So, make of it what you will.

On the topic of crossbreeding, I think overall the vibe I get is that there's a deep-rooted prejudice against cross-race couplings, but that folks are gradually becoming aware of this prejudice and starting to recognize it as wrong. This means that there's plenty of progressive thinkers who are willing to give it a pass, and also holdouts that condemn it. The quests we get involved with TYPICALLY show more of the former than the latter, which is why it's easy to forget about the prejudice.

As for Miqo'te genetics being stronger... I don't recall this being mentioned anywhere. I think there might have been something about genetics favoring the mother, unless I'm confusing things with FFXI. "Favoring" may not be a hard-and-fast rule, either; Hilda showed that fairly even splits of genetic traits are possible, given that she's quite recognizably both Hyur and Elezen.

The horse thing has been covered, but to address Au Ra + Hyur, this is addressed in quests in Sui no Sato in the Ruby Sea, in a way. There is a legend of an Au Ra princess who fell in love with a Hyur man. Their child was Au Ra, but had fewer scales than normal.

I tend to assume crossbreeding between all playable races is possible but not common or easy to conceive with. Hence why we see few cases of it, even with things like Miqo'te prostitutes seen in some places etc. I don't think it's just a matter of 'Miqo'te have dominant genes.'

I seem to remember reading that offspring of cross race couples are rare and usually are the mother's race.

    Hilda is an oddity.

That was made up by roleplayers to work with the character creator restrictions; it never had a basis in reality. When Square Enix cares enough about a character's hybrid ancestry to invest the resources in making a fully custom character outside the standard character creation restrictions for the sake of making it obvious, you get Hilda. Hilda is what should be expected - a mosaic of traits that reflects both parents. "She Get It From Her Mama" was just an RP rule of thumb for community consistency and even the people who advocated for that are like, "This has gotten out of hand." lol

To be fair, our two solid examples of mixed-race characters (Hilda and Arenvald) take after their mother's race.

Model-wise, Hilda is just a max-height Midlander with customised ears.

(Both are mixes of close-to-human races though, so we don't know what would happen with more unusual body shapes.)

There was a Halloween event that involved a miqote girl with a miqote mother and Hyur father. She also had both sunseeker eyes and moon keeper fangs iirc, for whatever reason

There is also a Hyur boy with a Roe father at the gold saucer.

I think the child Miqo’te models all have the Keeper fangs. I can’t recall seeing a Miqo’te child that didn’t have the fangs—Keeper or Seeker. But I could be misremembering. It could be that the fangs are baby teeth, and only Keepers have permanent teeth shaped like fangs, where as Seekers grow “normal” canines.

I think it was explained at some point that a lot of examples like this are the result of adoption, a lot of people died during the calamity
