There are plenty of robes that look fine on male characters without looking feminine as long as you're not in the mindset that "robe = dress = female clothing".
I guess u have a point tho I still think while a tank should wear armour to be protected, a mage could actually wear whatever bc they don't need physical protection. What I mean, there is no reason to only wear robes. There was a thread (i think 'what annoys you') where someone said they are annoyed by robes and some1 mentioned casters need robes bc the magic comes from the feet so they need the space for the magic to flow to the hands Sounds like the only viable reason for the need of robes
I guess it's just a fantasy trope that bugs me.

Robes can look nice but I'm honestly not a fan of them on my char...I love the skirts that come with tank armor and rather wear them than the healer robes (specifically AF)
I just love heavy armor and wish all my healers could dress in proper armored gear even if that's more unrealistic in that case lol

I do not understand why people do not grasp that removing gender requirements from gear is simply logical. It takes absolutely nothing away from players that do not want to wear gear that crosses gender roles to have the gear unlocked. Players that do not want it will not suddenly be forced to wear dresses on their male characters.

Continuing to gender lock gear DOES take something away from those that do want it for whatever personal reasons (small: I just want to wear some gender locked gloves/boots, large: it is part of their identity and they want to express it). It diminishes their experience and their self-expression. Why do people care so much about what OTHER people do when it has little-to-no negative impact on... anything?

Comparing a removal of gender requirements from gear to, say, people who want more childlike characters for... disgusting reasons... is an argument of false equivalence, and is dead in the water.

I don't want to play along side someone dressed as a large anthropomorphic frog/pig/snowman/chocobo... whatever... I don't care for it. Would I ever want to take that away from them? Nope, never. Because it would be unethical to enforce my preferences over a trivial matter on someone else when it really has no impact from my experience (other than spoiling a CS), and I can simply move on.

So far, every argument I have heard for not removing gender requirements falls logically flat.

Let people enjoy stuff... it isn't hurting anyone; and no, someone having an aesthetic that is contrary to your preferences is not a form of harm being done to you, it is a form of immaturity you need to get past. It's not all about you.

are you them? How do you know how they feel? People can say the same to you.

Thing is you act like we demanded to have the clothing locked we didn't ask for nothing its been the normal since game released, then when someone says we don't want change its a waste, its all accusing people that because people don't want it its their fault because you want it and you straight say "Its not all about you".

you are the one demanding so how can you say that?

That nobody should speak against it or uh oh we are the bad guys and again point fingers and make accusations.

I have said why I said what I said in the past I have seen people say they wanted it for those purposes, my mind goes to just make a female character why do you want it for guy characters why waste devs time on things like this?
you know A while back i suggested a on/off option to turn off glam so people wouldn't be bugged to what people see. Someone got mad at me imagine that can you tell me why?

Now to clarify the other person's comment I was agreeing to the boots and gloves and accessories I don't see a big deal about that, though its a stretch when you see someone asking for yuna's outfit then panties and bra's and other dress's its happened and I spoke up then about it also to say nobody said that is funny, cause it really happened. Hence the on/off option I mentioned was during that.

You are trying to convince me that playing a male character you wanna dress up like a female then go change your character into a girl, nobody is stopping anyone here its easy as pie to fantasia.
instead you are met on the forums with a push back so don't get up in arms this is what you chose to do and people have a difference of opinion you are always going to run into walls when it comes to things like this.

even when they wanted to play a young character push back walls am I painting a picture or you going to tell me its not all about you.

That's all I have to say on the subject as of right now on this.

I am not trying to sound like a evil person its just people have different views on things its always going to be met with water when there is a fire.

If this were a perfect game, all bodywear on male characters would be dresses. Not even nice ones like the Eternal Bonding gown, but a really awful looking one like the quintuffle or whatever it's called dress, so they can all look like they're trying very poorly to hide a pregnancy. Or trying very well to flaunt a pregnancy.

If people are genuinely feeling/getting hurt because they see a male avatar in a bikini or a wedding dress, then they do indeed need to get past that immaturity.

On the other hand side, if people can’t grasp why people consider it problematic that SE should spend countless hours to revisit every single piece of gear anon to make it so both men and women can use it instead of just making new gear that everyone can enjoy then Idk what to say about that either. I feel like a lot of people underestimate just how big of a thing it is that they are asking for here. This is as unreasonable as someone demanding SE to make content harder than Ultimate fights.

Back when we actually had some uniqueness to the game, warriors would complain that paladins had better mitigation than them, white mages complained that the other healers got picked more in savage raids. So what did they do? They homogenized the jobs. Now there's no real unique traits to any of the healers and tanks beyond a few niche skills, and I was literally told in one of my posts that if I want uniqueness, I should just play a DPS.

We've got to a point where people are now asking for homogenization with costumes and animations. I don't think you all realize what it is you're asking for, in another few months after you guys get your costumes then people are gonna ask for animations "This is 2020, why are running and idle animations locked to specific races!" And SE will once again cave to the mob instead of confidently sticking to their creative direction and there will be nothing unique to any of our characters besides racial features. Hell maybe you'll even ask for that, give bunny ears to Roes or cat tails to midlanders!

STOP with the homogenization. Take the loss for the sake of not completely ruining what's left of what makes each character unique (aesthetics). When people say "If you want girl clothes just play a girl" They don't say it cause they're homophobes or transphobe bigots, maybe they just wanna keep what makes their characters feel rare and unique without the meme squad coming in to take it all away.

This is a logical argument to make.

Do I think gender locked gear is silly? Yes.
Do I want it to end, be changed? Yes.
Do I think that it should be some sort of priority? Not qualified to make that call. So that is a soft no from me. SE's resources are their business.
Do I like this game well enough at present to continue to give them money to play it? Yes.
I never made the argument that it should be a priority of SE. Can't say that I will argue either way on it.

You are making a problem out of nothing. Your strawmanning brings nothing to the table.
