And this is why I love playing a lalafell. No matter what gender my potato is I'll always look like a potato and literally no one can tell from my character model that my character is male until I scream with a voice so deep I make Mount Gulg tremble in fear.

That moment when logic becomes "politics" just because someone doesn't understand it.

In order to get to zero chance you had to add a specific condition, ie male characters. You're ignoring that since Viera have limited options from being restricted to a smaller choice of appearances that the chance that someone has the same appearance as you goes up.

If we want variety, gear definitely needs to be unlocked. Some people may value things other than variety, but I find it hard to see how locks increase variety. They only enforce certain aesthetics (for example mages only wear robes) that not everyone will agree with.

Comparing outfits to classes also doesn't really work because classes are one single whole item while outfits aren't. If this game did not have classes, but instead had skills that you could mix and match, then we would have some similarity between combat and glamour and in that case, race/class/whatever locks would restrict us instead of enhancing variety. Beyond that thought, combat and character are two different things so it's not all that surprising to me that people might have different opinions on one vs the other. I like finding challenges in combat, limitations can help with that. When I find difficulty in getting my character to look the way I want, it's frustrating, not fun.

I see literally nothing here implying people want ffxiv to become a sandbox game, just that they want more options in terms of glamours for RP reasons, which is a huge part as to why some people play an MMORPG rather than a single player RPG.

Generally speaking, glamour for gear is "necessary" because otherwise it's very hard to make your character look nice unless you have a complete set of one design of gear AND you like the design AND it's valid gear for the content you're doing. 90% of the time "deglamoured" gear looks like a fashion disaster of mismatched styles.

Also, the art team working on gear design will not take away from the gameplay team working on gameplay innovations.

Nothing is unique. Almost everyone wears the newest glamour items. There's probably another player out there with the same looks as you. Like i said more hairstyles and more glamour options that is less likely.
