    [Petition] Remove Genderlocked Costumes

    Probably been done before but..

Anyone else kinda getting annoyed at all the Genderlocked items appearing on the Mogstation? I get the New Scion stuff being gender locked but surely it can't be too hard to make them fit the other gender? (Square Should hire modders tbh) and most the Scion stuff isn't even dyable. yet the original sets being composed of altered leveling gear.

Just seeing how most of the Male stuff is pretty bad-ars* looking coats while females mostly being dresses and high-heels. (there's still quite alot of want for the thavnairian bustier for males)

I know the mogstation items are mostly made to earn the devs a little extra money, but imagine all the dosh you could get if they could be equipped by both genders.

Let the laddies dress up in intimidating trench coats and something without heels.
Let the (roe)men dress up as the prettiest of princesses as they tank through a raid.

Yoshi P has stated that he does not want to restrict gear based on gender, and that they're working on making the Eternal Bond outfits wearable by both genders. Which is absolutely fantastic and I'm glad they're doing this, but what confuses me is that new things like Krile's outfit (which I know has been requested for years) are still gender-locked. You would think that they would want to just make them unisex by default going forward so they don't have to worry about going back and doing it later...
I'm also mildly irked that they released Krile's outfit but offered nothing for male characters, but this hasn't been the first time they've done this, so... /shrug

Please let me wear Lyse's liberator outfit, SE. I bet I could rock it better than she could.

It's likely due to the fact that locking it to female only is a much easier task to do due to the large extra workload they'd have to re-sculpt it for Male Bodies.

Certain races and genders share body skeletons. Female Hyur/Highlander/Viera/Roegadyn/Au Ra/Miqo'te/Elezen all share the same body skeleton, only with different variables for their proportions. Female Lalafell is separate, but Krile's outfit is already fitted for female lalafell so that's not an issue. So all they'd have to do to get it up and running is make it for female Hyur, then use the various race's variables to fit it for all. Easy-Peasy work for large payoff.

Now for males, not only would they have to re-sculpt the thing (removing notion of any chest curves, widening certain sections/thinning certain sections to better fit a male body, but then we come across the issue that is male body types in the game.

Hrothgar/Roegadyn have their own type no other race shares. Highlander/Au Ra sometimes have a separate one depending on the piece, but may also share with the next group depending. Hyur/Elezen/Miqo'te share another. And finally we have male lalafell which is separate from all of them.

See the issue? Creating a piece of gear for males can sometimes triple or quad their work, whereas females are super easy to design for with their system. Couple this with their "we want to keep the identity of the character who wore these outfits" approach Yoshi-P mentioned and you get one recipe for a quick, easy to hand-wave with their lore reason genderlocked outfit. When it comes to undoing genderlocks, I suspect they're only really going to be targeting the outfits that the vast majority are wanting to be undone, like the ceremony outfits.

I'm not sure at all that it will change anything, but I am with you on this.

When the produsser says "I don't want to restrict clothes and we work on wedding attires for all", when he says "both genders will have same looking skimpy outfits in Nier Raid", and then DevTeam does... this... this is a bit confusing and irritating.

Not to mention that I'm personally tired of this "skirts/shorts for girls, pants for guys" tactic which is a big thing every patch, and especially with some job AF sets (Bard, Scholar, Black Mage, Red Mage just in 5.0 and that's what I remembered like in a second) and with a lot of event clothes and some normal clothes (Spring Bottoms from Fashion Report, Garo sets, etc. I look at you).

That would explain a lot about their gear output really...

Although in the specific case of Lalafells, I assume they can just transfer from one gender to the other with minimal effort, unless the costume has a drastically gender-varied design.
