Because women's clothing that are designed for women look better on women. It's just natural and has been for centuries. Women are beautiful and the clothing they wear reflects/enhances their beauty. So, when you put such articles of clothing onto the opposite sex, it will not look right.

That has nothing to do with the clothing and everything to do with your preconceptions, ingrained in you since childhood, that clothing is gender-specific.

This is the same argument that created boys and girls toy aisles in the 80s and the reason why, even today, women are made to feel excluded from video games.

No one here is asking for societal or cultural norms to be altered. We're saying that you shouldn't need a penis to wear a trenchcoat.

Hello! I made a study on Women's Fashion in the XIXth century (specifically, A Semiotic Study of Women's Fashion in Mexican Ladies' Magazines), I can tell you most of what you said is BS. Clothes have changed depending on what is considered beautiful or attractive depending on the era. Corset styles have varied between squishing the boobs (renaissance corset) to actually reducing the waist (which is what waist trainers are these days), the crinoline was made so women didn't have to wear corsets, because wider hips were attractive; but since "super skinny" became fashionable now we have tighter clothes to accentuate flat figures. Previous to the invention of the button (!) people favored loose garments for both men and women, tied with belts or ribbons. In desertic areas, you also find men favoring looser gowns that help with the heat and sand. Heels were invented for men, they help when horseback riding, and the Court of Versailles favoured big wigs and lots of make up, on men and women equally. The white paste make up was also very popular in the East and can still be seen in Kabuki theater and Geiko.

Even at the start of last century, baby boys and girls wore in dresses until they reached childhood (I'm pretty sure there's a picture of Churchill in one), and even then, until the 50s (40s? I forget) pink was a masculine color (because it comes from red), while blue was feminine. Even then, clothing shifts culturally between what is considered "maculine" and "feminine."

You are not the only one who studied fashion and I'm sure you know silhouette matters. This is not a k-mmo where clothing clings and can just fit another gender. Male AuRa have hourglass figures, so they can pull off an outfit meant for that kind of frame, generally female. It's why potatoes have their own variants, because no totters or real curves outside their oval shape. Making it fit for men means more than stuffing them in a dress that doesn't look right. Which is what some people don't seem to get.

Another thing to always keep in mind, is target audience. What did the designers intend? Who are they selling it to? When a pretty dress or feminine outfit goes on sale, at the drawing board, there very likely was no "And this is how it looks on men." It's going to look bad, it's going to look like a joke unless it were modified.

And boy howdy is it ever vitally important that only serious glamours are acceptable in FFXIV

Preconceptions about what is and is not appropriate for the sexes informs a LOT of bias beyond clothing.

...A penis isn't required to wear a trenchcoat in general? I don't quite understand where you're going with this.

As for woman irl, all this "women's clothes are for women" is just..... gross. Are we in 18th century again? Clothes are just clothes, you use them for expressions, not for growing specific parts of body. This "woman clothing looks better on woman" is ridiculous as well: I am woman and there is NO dress or skirt irl that doesn't look on me as if I'm not a bag of potatoes, my body type just doesn't work with it (160cm height, 56kg weight so I'm not even fat if you will assume it as people love to do it on OF), while almost all my male friends would look good in dresses.
Let's forbid us wear pants again then, because pants are for men! We were forbidden from it not that long ago, hello. On wait, forbidding wearing pants for women would be... DiScRiMiNaTiOn, I forgot.
If some male characters players want to wear dresses - let them do so. It's not up to you to do decide what looks attractive for them, because they find their characters in dresses attractive. I find 90% of females bikini type glamours meh and vulgar, especially for 12+ game (which is a big surprise for me btw, because in my country FF14 is 18+). So what? Delete them? Of course not, people like their characters in bikini, they have their right to wear bikini. But why when players want to wear something interesting on male character there is immediately this outrage as if they are trying to put these clothes ON YOU? Same this outrage starting to grow every time females trying to ask for something other than another bikini, as if having more clothing option will break your universe.
Just what's wrong with the humanity.
