I would think something more along the lines of Stitches or Helcular. Still, I agree, no thanks, it would either be too disruptive like Helcular was pre nerf, or too pointless like Helcular was post nerf.

Stitches was good though, since whenever he spawned he would walk down the long main road, you could avoid him completely (or not see him and get destroyed), when he got to town he'd die pretty quickly, and if you killed him you got a neat trophy for your efforts.

That might be ok. Just a couple of elites that have long set paths. Like Son of Arugal, Mor'Ladim, Devilsaurs and Fel Reavers.

I don't mind PVP being in the game, but keep it instanced or in special zones in the world outside of PVE quest locations or make it where all parties have to agree to participate.

That would suck. Especially dying to lag or some trash. It wouldn't work anyway the way this game works. Best we would get would be like eureka, or deep dungeons; only lose progress for those instances.
World PvP can be great fun, but it's really doesn't make a lot of sense in this game.

To be on topic: I really enjoyed ESO open world pvp area, that created some amount of risk because you could get caught out in the open and trolled by groups of ppl. Also, another risk may be to add some type of content to bet your gear, materia, or Gil against another player when doing some kind of MGS event or pvp event.

Indeed. One theme I notice, also, is that often a lot of advocates for open world PvP just want to prey on people not interested in PvP. They always back off when the flow of the conversation takes a turn towards separating players into PvP realms where open world PvP is permanently enabled, and PvE realms where there is absolutely no open world PvP, not even the possibility to opt-in. Server transfers are allowed from PvP to PvE realms, but not the other way. And the reason for backing off is always, without an exception, that "too little people would go to the PvP realm."

Essentially, they know people don't like open world PvP, yet they want it added for their own satisfaction and force everybody else to join in---obviously as prey.

Of course, there are also some who are really looking to test their mettle against skilled opponents. But more often than not, those people also realize that they can't order steak in a coffee shop and are already getting their share of PvP thrill in games that are designed for PvP.

In the end open world PvP just doesn't go well in an RPG setting that relies on levels (of both character and gear) to determine strength. The end result is always high level players griefing low level players, raising the barrier of entry for new players and killing the game eventually.

The idea of a player-regulated open-world PvP scene where "police players" hunt those griefers is also a fantasy because there will never be enough police players to make a real difference.

The FFXIV design is about providing a leisurely experience to the vast majority of players, with some element of challenging content to entice the top few percentage of those players. Inevitably, mechanisms that cause the player to lose out for no fault of their own are seen as bad design, hence open world PvP simply doesn't fit with FFXIV.

Can safely say open world PvP would have me retiring my sub. Don`t even enjoy the PvP we have now but tolerate it enough for glamour.

Eureka had risk. It wasn't really well received.

And if you want real risk, take up crafting, but stop at 99% HQ chance.

Why things like that tended to work out is they were relatively rare events. They were memorable because they didn't happen often, and while they were incredibly disruptive, the disruption was not a lengthy affair, typically only lasting a few hours at most.

The Blood Plague (and the Zombie plague it inspired that ran later just before Wrath) were in essence one-off events, and kiting things like Kazzak (or the Black Dragon world boss from I think the Badlands) to Stormwind were fairly involved, carried a fair amount of risk on their own, and didn't happen exceptionally often.

A game that has things like occur frequently, as part of an intended gameplay loop, generally has to be designed with that thing in mind from the beginning...and is generally a much different game design that what we have, or what WoW was even back circa 2005 when things like that Kazzak vs Stormwind would occur.

I didn't say they should be common but one of my issues with this game is such events are not at all possible because this game is very structured and married to its structure (out of coding necessity, it seems).

Let's take it a step further and add in a real sense of loss.
