Considering that "gunblade" name is currently taken, they can use FFXIII gunblades and just name them "saber" (as in FFXIII). Just add to lore that Garleans designed more advanced version of basic gunblade.
According to the lore provided by the starting Gunbreaker questline....

....they're just called "guns". It's also why they call the job "Gunbreaker", as their tactics were designed to fight specifically against Garlean weaponry.

Honestly, I'm not sure why players want Garlean stuff. In the end, it's either Gunbreaker with more ranged skills, the "reverse Red Mage", or Machinist with melee skills. It just doesn't come off as being that impressive compared to what other jobs can do.

If I recall correctly the Gunbreaker Gunblades were designed to fight against Allagan guns, some suitably ancient foe anyway.

Garlean gunblades in turn were inspired by Gunbreakers, with Radovan considering their weapons to be inferior imitations, while the Garleans obviously consider them to be superior to the original.

Coming to a thread titled 'Garlean Gunblade Job?' seems an odd choice then

For me for example DNC is not impressive yet people lose their mind about that job. It's all matter of perspective. For me idea of gunblade job based on Garleans or FFXIII gunblade seems to be very interesting. There are multiple ways to make it fun.

Culturally, Garlemald is the most fleshed out and most interesting nation in the game world.

I don't think I'm alone in the fact that not only do I wish some of their classes were available, but Garleans as a race too. Since they lack access to channeling Aether naturally, this could easily be explained away by them using Magicite instead of Soulstones and/or taking an Echo/Magitek infusion as part of their beginning story.

Sounds like it would play just like red mage, but with bullets instead of magic. Would be rather boring then. Besides, we already have the original and more pure version, Gunbreaker. And it beats every gunblade there is story wise so far.

That is a rather depend on perspective thing.

Gunbreaker Gunblade is designed purely to be based on FF8 Gunblade thus gameplay wise the Job is very heavy focus on being Squall/Seifer gameplay experience. Thus the ammo is only used to infuse the Blade with Magic or increase virbations to cut things more easily.

Garlean Gunblade is actually based on real life Gunblade and Lightning's Gunblade which has both sword and gun functions.

The real life name for Gunblades are called Pistol Swords.

    On side note...

There is a real life GunAxe called Axe-and-Pistol stored in the Tower of London....

meh seems a little redundant at that point. I think what we have is fine.

It is not a matter of adding a replacement for Gunbreaker but to introduce something that is something different in gameplay style that has been set into FF14.

We've been teased by the Garlean gunblade since 1.0 and they established the Lore that Gunbreaker Gunblade and Garlean Gunblades are two completely different weapons. It is a rather interesting opportunity they set up in the game as we know how the Garlean Gunblade combat works through the years of encounters being a Hybrid of Melee and Range combat due to the design.

I am not saying Gunbreaker is bad as it is a decent tank as the Sorceress/Oracle Knight themed Job based on FF8 characters Squall and Seifer.

However, the Garlean Gunblade facinates me a bit more since it is something designed for FF14 beginning with Gaius then become more spread with other Garlean NPCs. It would also give them a chance to introduce a Job that is FF14 exclusive as Yoshi-P did once said sometime back in 2.X or 3.X that he did have interests in introducing FF14 exclusive Jobs despite most New Jobs will be from past FF games.
