Sounds like it would play just like red mage, but with bullets instead of magic. Would be rather boring then. Besides, we already have the original and more pure version, Gunbreaker. And it beats every gunblade there is story wise so far.

That is a rather depend on perspective thing.
Gunbreaker Gunblade is designed purely to be based on FF8 Gunblade thus gameplay wise the Job is very heavy focus on being Squall/Seifer gameplay experience. Thus the ammo is only used to infuse the Blade with Magic or increase virbations to cut things more easily.
Garlean Gunblade is actually based on real life Gunblade and Lightning's Gunblade which has both sword and gun functions.
The real life name for Gunblades are called Pistol Swords.
On side note...
There is a real life GunAxe called Axe-and-Pistol stored in the Tower of London....

This is why I'd be interested in a true gunblade class. It's a historical weapon not seen outside of Final Fantasy. I have a firearms textbook that mentions they were rubbish because it really messed up the weapon's balance but it's still an interesting concept. I mean heck, stick a gunbarrel on a katana and I can try and design a Steampunk Samurai. Wouldn't that be fun? That is a rather depend on perspective thing.
