Crossover events and breaking immersion

For immersion, I don't think MMO's are the best place to get that fix. It's impossible to avoid immersion breaking content because you have no control on whether another player drives by you in that FF15 car... The only thing you can do is try to role-play with other players and avoid crowds, but you can't even avoid the crowds while doing MSQ because the quests are all in the hubs.

For immersion, I look to single player games, or multiplayer games that are more of a controlled environment compared to most MMO's.

Seriously though, as much as I detest the non-FF/Square related crossovers, that airship has well and truly sailed now and SE will still add them regardless (because they are popular with the general player population), so I guess, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. If it brings enjoyment to the game (and importantly, more players), then that is only a good thing.

And besides, no one is forcing you to do the crossover events, they're entirelly optional (hence why I never did the Yo-kai Watch, Monster Hunter or GARO events), so if you don't like them, don't do them, and ignore other players buzzing around Eorzea in a supermarket children's ride mount or a robotic horse. It's all personal choice.

I remember the alpha threads where people complained giving the player characters the option to jump would ruin immersion.

We then went through pages where people were suggesting things like adding a cooldown to jump.

I haven't taken immersion complaints seriously since.

Everyone has the right to express their opinions and thoughts, but we should judge those individually.

Bad feedback on let's say combat mechanics don't make all feedback on combat mechanics bad, right?

I don't know. Biggs and Wedge have been around since at least 1994's Final Fantasy 6, and they're Star Wars characters. I actually smiled when they showed up with Cid, as it reminded me of my childhood playing the older games. It felt like fan service of other franchises, than ripping me out of immersion.

Sharing names with Star Wars characters isn't the same thing as being Star Wars characters though.
