Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Honestly not mentioning the males/females is a good thing. That means that no random erradication happened to them and that society itself don't see Viera and Hrothgar as a dying soon-to-be-extinct race. Not only that but tecnically what we see on the first does not count. We, the player, create a Viera or a Hrothgar, not a Viis or a Ronso. If male Viera and female Hrothgar are to be mentioned at all, it should be at the source, no? We have yet to go to "Vieraland" at the source, as well as having a meeting with Fran, Queen Ashe and the resistance. I feel like then it would be the perfect moment to introduce the males, and I kinda feel like this is what SE is planning to do as well.

I haven't gotten super far in the story, but why exactly would they need to mention male viera at all in the expansion? It's a different world where the races have literally been scattered to a select few holdouts from the flood of light.. Not to mention anything said would be about a completely different race technically. I just don't think it's that important at all.

I was thinking this as well, especially if there are no children around. Since Viera live for 300+ years, it could be that the Viera around right now are those who survived the Flood. The males died fighting or are so rare now that they're hidden away to the point not even Viera females will even hint at them being around/alive just in case they're killed off - thus resulting in their race going 'byebye'. In any case... unless the Viera can breed some other way, the Vii race might be heading towards extinction. Which is a lot different compared to the Viera on the source as we know the males are still there.

Might be a cool plot if it turns out that jumping from the first and the source can be done with ease - so Viera males from the source can move to the first to stop such an 'extinction' crisis - if the males are all dead and the Vii need males for cute little tiny buns.

It may come down to their habitation ... habits. I'd find it odd if they precisely mirrored the Viera in their lifestyles, but perhaps the males live in separate villages in their case, some of which were wiped out by the sin eaters... total eradication would be a salient point for an NPC to bring up, but it was not, leading me to think it's not the case. They don't refer to themselves as doomed, so there must be something else going on. Either way, I really enjoyed the foray to their village.

Also agreed on Urianger's build being good. Iron out all the kinks in Elezen, give a muscle tone slider, and you have a decent basis for male Viera.

Matsuno tweeted that in the original FF12 production, he just told the artists to make a "Jessica Alba" for Fran's design. It seems they sampled her appearance in "Dark Angel".
He also said he didn't mean for her to be that tall(Alba is 169cm), and was just like, "Ok...that'll do". Disclaimer from him again(he knows what's up lol): It's only for 12's production and unrelated to FF14.

More Vii lore; DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS. I will be talking to every single Vii in this village and will update accordingly. This includes dialogue that you won't get from quests. I will update when I can.

Personal thoughts; I'm not sure if this meant that for the Vii, males were actually in charge - they had a King/Emperor. Could be that the Ronka Rulers were male Vii - seems doubtful as the Empire fell before the flood. Most if not all of the elders perished to save the children. The village seems to be all that remains of the children that survived and a few elders. Will update when I find out more. I don't see any child Vii here either. Speculation at this point lol. But what is obvious is that the Vii were royal guards to the Emperor. And what's more obvious is that the vii here are going face to face with an extinction crisis. Their numbers are pitiful...

Looks like one of them is with child and is about to give birth? Will give an update with that as I go along.

Confirmed to be a Viera child - might be a mixed race kid? Will edit as I go along.

Looks like their children are very rare, very rare indeed. Considering they slap all who enter the wood at the time that it's very much likely that it was a male who did the deed. And recent at that, last year or so.

Indeed, you are looking for mentions of male Vii and if male are still alive or totally wiped out by sin eaters. But, at least in the french traduction, they are said to be alive, just a very few left. Early on when we arrive in the village and the vii explain their situation, the fact that they are almost extinct, they said there is not enough male viera left BUT with that statement they said they are alive. And more than that they also mention the fact that they are also protecting the forest.
But again, maybe you already know all that and I didn't understand what you were saying, sorry XD

Aye, more info the better! At least the mere chance that we may see them either in future patches or whatnot would be great. It seems the English version is a lot more 'subtle' about it. But the info I posted above did make it somewhat clear on what's going on.

given how poorly finished viera and horthgar are right now (cant wear most head gear, not all hair, ect.) I doubt we'll be getting male viera any time soon :/
