Hairstyle Concerns for The New Races

Honestly, it feels like people are just trying to hate on Hrothgar lately because they didn't get what they wanted. I've seen several posts saying they should have not done Hrothgar and they should have just done viera, which I don't understand seeing as how this unlocks several unique aspects to character customization now. you are welcome to like what they have done with these guys but many people still think its extremely weird that hair styles are locked to faces.

I'm my opinion, I'm not upset with the limited hairstyles with the new races. I'm just really thankful to be finally playing a Viera after so so long.

I mean, we are not the game devs who have to program the hairstyles, with all the other assets in FFXIV. If they have issues and problems implementing helmets on the new races due to unique faces, it must be the same for hair styles then.

And while Rhothgar suffers from this, the dev team did say that they would have some exclusive hairstyles and faces that no other race can have.

Same with Viera, not all hairstyles will be available to Viera and I'm okay with this, placing myself in the dev team shoes it must be really difficult. We don't know, we are just looking from the outside and just making assumptions.


There's nothing wrong with making complaints and discussions but all I ask is just to have some faith in the dev team and their hard work they have been doing for Final Fantasy XIV.

I mean they added glasses and other head accessories for the new races before launch of shadowbringers, while yoshida said that they wouldn't have any at launch but would slowly add some slowly over time. The team was able to accomplish this (without telling yoshida ) in ready for the expansion.

So while I understand how some players feel with the hrothgar and viera limitations, Im also looking from a dev's team point of view that it might be impossible or too difficult right now and that resources are needed somewhere else for now, like that Nier 24 man raid.

I think u misunderstand the ppl who want male viera.
Even the male viera crowd typically agrees that the full hrotgar race should've been for 5.0 and the full viera race for another expac

Even if there are more "exclusive hairstyles" on the way for Hrothgar... the ones they have now are exclusive too.

Don't take those words as a promise that any added styles will be radically different to the existing ones. It may simply be different combinations of the existing faces and manes (so you can have a choice even though they can't be selected independently).

I plan on changing to Hrothgar and never looking back. So I do hope they eventually they add other hair styles to them. If nothing else, the ones you get for achievements or buy (mog store or in game).

As for viera, they will most likely get a majority of the hairstyles sometime during 5.x.

Who is hating on Hrothgar ? You love it the way it is, fine. Don't get offended by those of us who are able to see its shortcomings. I for one adore Hrothgar, but I see its shortcomings. And hair is a one such that I will not dismiss. Ah someone else said, we want better for them. And I am for the race counterparts, but I believe one race should have been fully realized with the other being done later. In my opinion it's Hrothgar that should have been fully realized first.

The only thing unique about Hrothgar is its beast head and it's fur details. This is really only two new features in character customization.

I have little faith in words. As we've all seen things said and never done. That's just me when it comes to any game until I see a patch with the details. I've learned quite well now to expect nothing, unless I love being dissapointed.

I'm sure we have faith in the ability of the dev team. I mean look at all they have done. This is not their fault. I lack of faith in management and the actual decisions that SE makes - and then silence upon issues they don't wish to directly wish to give a close-ended answer to.

Limited hairstyles. Limited headgear. Scaled assets. Something went wrong. Time expectations were off. The creative process was disrupted. Management was disorientated. Last minute decisions were made to add things (this is a particular one which can completely ruin scheduled products). Anything could have happened. Or simple enough they did not have the manpower for everything that they wanted to have out at expansion time.

Don't put out something that is not finished when it's meant to be a final product. Don't put out something that will have be limited compared to what we have available, because of time constraints. Push it out later in the expansion when it's complete and has everything which was planned for it (and more) available for players to fully assess the race.

Unique hairstyles and faces is already the norm for every race out there. This should be the baseline in this game for the Hrothgar, not something to be excited that they're doing.

For me, the Hrothgar represent a strange place for character customization. For instance, if someone wants to change their hair, do they have to buy a Fantasia, or can they do it with the aesthetician... and if they can do it with the aesthetician, can they change their entire face to get a new hairstyle? Either way they handle that they're shooting themselves in the foot since if you can change your face there, people playing other races will feel upset that they can't change their faces there. If they can't change their face, Hrothgar players will be upset they can't use the same resource with in-game currency to update their look as every other player. This is really an obstacle they should have figured out before launching the race. Considering how much more complete the Viera are in comparison, they really should have done a male/female version of that, or of Hrothgar I really don't care, just seems they spent more of their time on Viera, and then launched the other at a later date.

The players who want these races deserve races that are as complete as all the other options, and Square deserves to be able to launch something they can be proud of, not something that they're going to have to keep working on throughout the coming expansion. Also, the fact they have to keep working on these races after launch can be seen as disappointing for those hoping to see the other sexes of these races for 6.0. If they're spending their time fixing the two sexes they already launched, then less time will be able to be spent creating the counterparts.

I don't get how people with other races can possibly be upset if Hrothgar can change face to get different manes at the aesthetician because of the face+hair conjoined issue.

Literally, they can choose their hairstyles at will, Hrothgar can't (in theory) without this implementation, simply as that. Even worse that our lion friends already have a tiny pool of styles to choose from against the dozens that are available for other races.

So? I should be upset that they didn't detail out their planned progress on these additions to us beyond "Sometime after 5.0 releases"? For a game with many planned updates that updates often?

No you dont have to be upset but others can be. And again he outright once said that we will never get a housing timer (said that in a liveletter on top of that!) and yet months later we had one. He said that we will get egis of Shiva and other primals and yet we never got them. They might have plans but those can change. And as my post even stated: We simply dont even know when and how many we will get. And this is my biggest problem. It does of course not have to be your problem and you can be fine with it. And I am just not fine with this restriction anyway so no I am not spinning it because I simply dont like the idea itself and just pointed out that words dont mean anything right now.

I also can play games without having to 100% like or trust the dev behind it. I respect him for the work he has done after 1.0 but that does not mean that I fully trust what he is saying and seeing how there has been changes in the past I will remain skeptic. Call me whatever you want but for me this limitation of the first beast race is just bad. And the hints of something coming in the future does not change that, since we barely have any numbers on this. Again it could be 10 styles it could be one. But its still a limitation.

I am also not a fan of the restriction for Viera but they at least have the hairstyle category.

Edit: I even went back to my first post that you answered: I never in there said that others cant be happy, I said that its a disappointing thing for me. I also wrote that I am afraid that Hrothgars will be stuck with the limited styles for a longer time. And then I wrote that we got less hairstyles with patches in the expansion (which is a fact) and thus I kinda doubt that they will get many or that we might even lose some for the other races. You then answered that this is not so bad because he promised us more styles and that they still have enough, even though they are fixed to faces thus way less styles per face.
