Played FFXI on release and continued for 2 years. Since I had a job and school i couldn't really dedicate the consecutive hours the game demanded for real progression. Finally got frustrated with all the mechanics that were holding me back and I quit. Picked up wow and played that for .. many years and then swapped to FFXIV when it came out. WoW was very entertaining but when all my friends ditched it slightly after Cataclysm I lost most of my reasons to play.
Things that I hated about FFXI: XP loss on death. no progression without parties. Monotonous leveling grind. NMs for rare drops were an insane campfest and not guaranteed even if you tagged it and beat it.
Things I liked: Rich story, varied classes(one character for all jobs) and expansive maps.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
Played it for about 5 years.
Asura server - Galkamole Character
*Don't argue with idiots. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I actually just started to play ff11. Never took the time to get into it years ago, but was fascinated to find that it's still going a couple weeks ago.Heya everyone I was just wondering how many of you have come across from from FFXI? I noticed we had a lot of other MMO players. Was just wondering if we have any over here? I left XI to come and play XIV in 2010. I loved that game and it is nice to see bits and bobs like Glamours etc in the game. I was on Shiva.
I sometimes go back but I am overwhelmed by how much I fell behind and I will always just play XIV now. Be nice to see if any XI players enjoy this game as much as XI or playing both?
My success rate of getting XIV friends into XI is 50/50 :3 I had one friend who absolutely looooved it...the other was rather meh about it.
I think if the interest is there, it can be a really fun game for people to try out, even if you just play it for the general leveling/story experience. When first starting, there will definitely be a period of "OMG HOW DO I DO ANYTHING IN THIS GAME, HOW DO I EVEN OPEN THE MENU", but once you learn how to navigate the UI and know where to look for quest guides, it can be a good time.![]()
Played XI back when it came out on PS2. I stopped play XI because I didn't have the time for it back when the third expansion came out. Briefly played it sometime a few years back but I will forever love vanilla XI over what it has become today. It holds a special place in my heart til this day. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I liked XIV Legacy more than 2.0. While I still enjoy XIV as what it has become today, apart of me misses 1.xx.
I’ve played on and off since Xmas 2005 (super inflation times), the game is far more accessible than it used to be thanks to the Trust System and some quality of life improvements. Top tier endgame is still a hell of a grind, but that is to be expected. Still, the game had a good story and I made quite a few friends there as well as met my wife. If you still want to play, give it a go, most of the active population is on Asura now if you are not hung up on a particular server.
Just your friendly neighborhood elezen
Been playing XI on the Siren server (#1 Besieged baby!) since 2004/5 and haven't stopped. It's honestly one of the best MMOs I've played even with its various faults and long return time on QoL additions. Between the style of the gameplay and the community it fostered and the sheer size of the world and its lore I don't think I'll ever be able to give it up until SE themselves shuts everything down.
FFXI player up until Wings of the goddess. Completed all endgame back in the day except absolute virtue.
