Correction, it is now. Everything Lv75 cap was pretty much pure gold for an MMO. Once WotG came out and the level capped went past 75 the game turned into a flaming pile of shit. And that's putting it lightly.
Also the community is an entirely new one now so it will never be the same as its glorious former self. The community was so good back in the early 2000s, cant speak much for it now.
^edit (on mobile) I think it might have been abyssea that raised the level cap past 75. Either way, ruined it.
Hmm I disagree, XI lv.99 is awesome, I just wish they would get rid of iLv.100-119 and get back to true levels scaling althought we have capacity points nowaday. I played on Asura 2003-4ish til around 2012. I likely would have stayed there but Abyssea not only killed the game, it also killed my nearly decade old linkshell and I was the only one who wanted to even give xiv a shot.
Tried to go back but between trusts and the deconstruction of most endgame its lost any good flavor it had. The emphasis on the community, the risk vs reward, the strategic play, etc. all of that is gone and that's what made ffxi so good. I know it has never existed in xiv, which is why its more tolerable here, although I would love to see XIV take more of the good cards from the XI deck instead of vice versa
this i miss the old ffxi communityCorrection, it is now. Everything Lv75 cap was pretty much pure gold for an MMO. Once WotG came out and the level capped went past 75 the game turned into a flaming pile of shit. And that's putting it lightly.

Again, disagreeing, Abyssea is cleareable rather fast even in the case that it would be done solo, community is still there *maybe not your friends* but se did refriender not long ago, I for one like Abyssea, I for two will say that if anything, my opinion is: no no no no NO to xiv deck.Xiv deck is horrible , im not even going to start speaking about triple triad… But I will absolutely say that I desire that 14 keep its game elements to 14. I would be completely fine if they reversed the changes that 11 got from 14. I do not like the fact xiv is a theme park, no thx to fourteen taking 11 game elements also.I played on Asura 2003-4ish til around 2012. FFXI was my first MMO and I still think of it as my favorite game of all time. I played from 2004 to 2006. I was a Bastok hume male named "Kentai" on Gilgamesh. The initial journey from level 1 to 75 was where I had the most fun.
I think what I miss from that game the most was the community aspect of the gameplay.
FFXI parties mostly stayed in one spot while leveling up, and the game was less button mashy, so it was easier to chat with party members and get to know them. Plus, you only played with people on your server.
FFXIV is pretty much the opposite where you're constantly moving your character and rapidly pressing buttons to do a rotation. And leveling up with duty finder randoms that you'll never see again. Overall, I still think FFXIV battles are more exciting than FFXI, but the community aspect was better in FFXI.
All I can say is 1. How is that a good thing? And 2. No it's not. Yeah all of us that played during its prime, our friends don't play it anymore most likely. But that reverberates. And its exponential. To the point that I can say with 100% certainty that w.e community you're engaging with on there now is in no way of the love and quality it was in its prime. And that's simply due to the passage of time. Different time, different crowd. I highly doubt there many on xi that have stuck with it from the start. Not saying there aren't though.
Clear a whole expac story "rather fast"? Son, do you know how long it took me to level up, do my genkais, and find my AF coffers? Maybe I'm having time dilation because I was 13yrs old during this time but it was a monumental feat that made one swell with pride. Let alone the time it took to get sky/sea access! You'll never know the joy of running into those late night JP exp parties and being lucky enough to get an invite and when you do FORGO everything else because those parties were so insanely good! The feeling of tagging an NM before everyone else camping, hell even it was just Spook. But I digress, I'm going on a nostalgia induced rant now xD
