I know it's an unpopular opinion but I liked XIV Legacy more than 2.0. While I still enjoy XIV as what it has become today, apart of me misses 1.xx.
Abbyssea killed XI for me..
as for XIV I don't miss 1.0 so much but I definitely miss 1.20 to 1.23.. and I definitely preferred it over ARR.

1.2 was pretty much a totally different game to 1.0 and improved so much it was basically a 2.0 in itself in the eyes of a lot of people..
I remember during the beta test people were basically calling ARR version 3.0 because of that

Honestly if they continued along the path they were going from 1.20 to 1.23 I reckon a hell of a lot more of my friends would still be playing and loving it. But instead they warcrafted it and well everyones got bored and left.. Very few left playing at this point.

In many ways XI was even more casual than XIV is. For a long time i only played XI 2 nights with work and studies but you really didnt need massive time commitments to make progress. most of its endgame could be done in around an hour. limbus nyzul assault, salvage, einherjar, some dynamis zones.. you really didnt need that much time..

Part of why i consider it more casual though is because XIV almost demands you play.. take a week off. fall behind on your progression or tomestones no weekly drops for you..... where in XI you could bugger off on holiday come back and not feel behind..
