I don't care which "game-refugee" a person is as long as they play and enjoy the game and do not spoil it to others. But every time there is "this thing was like this in my X game, why it's not like this here, I want it to be like in my X game" (and I saw plenty of people like this, and what kind of irony is it that most of them were from WoW or from FF11) I have a tic, seriously. Criticism is a good thing but when it's a literal whining about "why this game is different from my previous game" it's just incredibly annoying to say the least. Outside of this I don't see any problems with WoW or any other refugees, people are the same everywhere.

The press release disagrees with you.

    From https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...1007005648/en:
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), now exceeds 12 million players worldwide.
Fairly hard to argue that the 'subscriber base' isn't active users, especially since they specifically exclude people who wouldn't, by any reasonable definition, be active subscribers. From the same link, emphasis mine:

World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees’ territories are defined along the same rules.

Irrelevant. Merely having a different sub model doesn't mean they didn't have a uniquely identifiable account, which was individually paid for. Hence, they were still subscribers.

O_O Seriously. If you think that's evidence, I have a bridge to sell you. A company can claim whatever they want, but it has never been corroborated.

And umm... did you look at what you bolded? Like really read it? Cause if you did, you would know that their definition of "subscribers" includes non-active subs...

They can. The difference is, they have more evidence they had 12m than you have that they did not. In fact, I even went to their Q4 2010 earnings report, where they reiterate that claim. Since an earnings call has actual legal requirements regarding veracity, I think it's safe to say they had 12 million subscribers.

I did. I paid particular attention to the keyword "exclude", and the phrase "expired or cancelled subscriptions". Which is clearly, unequivocally saying that non-active subs are not included in the sub count.

We've had WoW refugees in GW2 since a long time and GW2's community was never "WoW toxic, GW2 good", instead, they always welcomed them and sometimes even went as far as gifting them an expansion.

I've met a bunch of "WoW refugees" in FFXIV and they are actually funny and down-to-earth people. Obviously, experiences can vary for everyone, but i feel like all this hate is unwarranted from the so-called and proclaimed "nicest MMO community".

FFXIV does have bad apples, FFXI was much better community that's for sure and I believe they were made here in FFXIV because my cousin is a FFXI player and he just plays game and has fun.

if I remember right when this game first started people were kicking left and right even charging people to get into a run with them to beat it no helping even kicking for no video when there were no videos cause the content was new.

even now I believe its the very same people I don't think it has anything to do with anyone coming from other games.

Most wow refugees will be more open minded people normally. They aren't the type of people who have only played wow their entire gaming life. The group I was with when I took a break from here to go to wow, they'd fit in very well. One of them is a ween, she just hasn't had the courage to jump ship yet.

those were trolls, for the most part they were handled, banned or simply server placed on ignore.

was in SCorp during aar up to 2.2 when ever we had a new player we asked if they knew the strat. if no we gave it to them and made sure they were able to udnerstand it at least to a playable comprehension.... since 2.4 its only been about dps this dps that youre not dpsing you suck *get kicked*

That's not how burden of proof works. There is no "evidence" that what they claim is true. Only their word.

And again, even if we assume they aren't lying, they included Chinese players, which completely skews any attempt at comparison to pointlessness.

Then SE makes the game easyer to accomodate their wowness and esoness... but its not enough ... more complaining its still too hard the healers dont dps like in wow and eso.... so more easy added to the game and more players come because the game is starting to be like wow and eso. So more people come and complain that its still too hard and that classes and so on are not like in wow and eso..... seen it with step of faith getting a nerf bat in 2.57 because new players didnt want to apply start, because item level//gear score > strat and common sense.
SE even added echo to ease the fight in trials and raids as if those are not easy enough WHEN YOU APPLY THE STRAT ( sry to break the bubble but hard mode titan at item level 70 no wipe and extreme titan at 90 no wipe is doable without echo) and it wasnt enough... the game was still too hard and they made content more and more easy to help this new generation.
    ?
You have a point however its not the way ffxiv follow. SE does not listen to not-japan community, japanese themselves are not playing wow at all.
Game is becoming simplier because main game designer decided to make it a casual game for everyone in which you could play however you want.
Is it good or bad we will see, they aredoing fine so far.
