tomes arent just for gear lol they also for mats lol thats yWhy would you need tomestone gear when better gear will be available through both vendors and dungeons in shadowbringers? I mean I'm sure there will be some alternative way of getting that gear if you want it for glamour or whatever but I don't really get why this is an issue.
Reading this thread made me realize that I don't have level 60 tank gear. I have tank gear for 50 & 70, but not 60. I'm gonna have to remedy that.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
So not only are we being nerfed due to a level cap increase, our current progress of currency is being taken too?I don't see this discussed elsewhere: the most recent "upcoming changes" notice says that 5.0 will see the removal of both Mendacity and Genesis tomestones -- but the two new types of tomestones will only be available at level 80.
Doesn't that leave a huge gap in using duty currencies to upgrade gear from 70-79th level? Or are they going to be putting iLevel 390 items on a gil merchant?
I still have a couple jobs I want to level up and gear to 360/390. Just a casual player here (don't do much raiding other than occasional pugs).
I wonder why MMO's do this? Its like the new 5G coming out, they want me to buy a new phone because my current one wont work anymore by the end of the year...the sales clerk didnt mention this to me when he sold it to me a couple months ago! It would have been more convenient for the customer if they just worked around the hardware for the upgrade so my old phone wouldnt be junked after the cost to buy it to begin with was so high...the same could be said for our end game gear. Allow it to level with us so the effort wasnt in vein. But thats just me thinking of my own convenience.

Well your progress (of Mendacity and Genesis) can be traded for Poetics so it's not like you are losing everything, unless you literally do nothing with it and eventually an update would delete them anyway.
Just like in Stormblood, the MSQ will offer gear as rewards to help you whilst leveling up. There will also be merchants in the new areas selling gear relevent to the local level so until you get to lvl 80 everything will be pretty much easy to access, after that though the new tomestone cap will come in to play, and you'd have job Artifact Gear too most likely.Doesn't that leave a huge gap in using duty currencies to upgrade gear from 70-79th level? Or are they going to be putting iLevel 390 items on a gil merchant?
This is nothing new. The very same thing happened during the launch of Heavensward and Stormblood. The previous expansion's currency becomes outdated and Poetics is used to purchase any related items. You'll still be able to gear up normally, you'll just be using Poetics instead of the other currency.
If I die, forgive me. I used to be a Dragoon.
Ah, that is good news then. I can gear up my other toons easier then since we earn the other ones faster. \o/This is nothing new. Thanks Dev team!!

Genesis is going away. That's not what I'm worried about.
As I see it, the exchanging of Genesis for something else can go one of two ways:
-Genesis converts to poetics, where 1 Genesis gives multiple poetics.
-Genesis converts to a new kind of tomestone. It takes more than 1 Genesis to give 1 new tomestone.
If it's the former, then I'm gonna spend my hoarded Genesis ASAP. If it's the latter, I'm gonna keep them...
Right? this was exactly my first thought. This has happened before. This is nothing new. The very same thing happened during the launch of Heavensward and Stormblood. Before it was 1 (tome):4(poes) or 1:5 ratio.Genesis is going away. That's not what I'm worried about.

Creation can be exchanged for Mendacity and Mendacity is a higher tier than Creation. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but [good] information on this subject appears to be scarce and I don't want to waste my Genesis if I don't have to.
That's because creation was cycled out mid-expansion. At the start of a new expansion the previous expansions tomes get rolled into poetics. This is exactly what happen at the beginning of Stormblood, where the last two tomestone types (Lore and Scripture) could be traded in for poetics. The beginning of Heavensward was a bit different as it was the first expansion and poetics was originally the final capped tomestone of A Realm Reborn so it didn't need to be traded in.
Don't think of it as trading in Genesis being traded down to poetics, it's more that poetics is having it's level range brought up to include Genesis gear and replacing Genesis.
