Mendacity AND Genesis removed?

I don't see this discussed elsewhere: the most recent "upcoming changes" notice says that 5.0 will see the removal of both Mendacity and Genesis tomestones -- but the two new types of tomestones will only be available at level 80.

Doesn't that leave a huge gap in using duty currencies to upgrade gear from 70-79th level? Or are they going to be putting iLevel 390 items on a gil merchant?

I still have a couple jobs I want to level up and gear to 360/390. Just a casual player here (don't do much raiding other than occasional pugs).

I would say they'll do the same thing as with ARR and HW. Scaevan gear will be available to purchase from Rhlagrs with poetics, same as Shire (last tome set of HW at level 60, formally tomestones of Scripture) and Ironworks (last tome set of ARR at level 50).

They're adding two new currencies to replace mendacity and Genesis spots and then you'll be able to trade Men and Gen in for Poetics (which you will use to buy any of the Stormblood gear token gear).

Think of it like this: All the tomes you've known (besides poetics) have been rotate one out to make room for the new one, but they've (I'm assuming, in your case) all been available at 70. They can't just rotate one out and add a new one because that'd leave the older one still available at 70 while the new one is at 80. Instead, they just wipe it all and everything prior to latest expansion is available for poetics, available throughout the leveling process.

Yeah it mentions exchanging them for poetics, but poetics has a 2000 cap and I'm constantly max already. Argh.

I agree with this 100%. Never let your currency cap. There is always something you can buy. Right now you can buy poetics gear for your DNC and GBR. You can also always buy items for an anima weapon or gardening soil. You may not garden but I guarantee you many people do. So yea bottom line is use em.

Even if you don't need any poetics gear for your own use, you can still sorta indirectly convert poetics into grand company seals. You buy a bunch of Shire accessories, go to your GC HQ and turn them in via Expert Deliveries. Suddenly you have an infinite supply of GC seals to buy ventures and glamour prisms with.

Demicrystals are your friend, plus you get like 40k for a full set of Poetics when you sell the demicrystals. Buy them in Idylshire.

Allagan tomestones of creation can be exchanged by speaking with Auriana in Revenant’s Toll (X:22.7 Y: 6.7). Either I'm blind or you can only exchange them for mendacity on that vendor...
