It's far too early. The level cap is still ONLY lv50. That's nothing.
Merits are a decent idea though.

Merits are a decent idea though.
Merit systems are in WOW, RIFT, MOST asian MMOs, FF11, ALLODs online etc all most every mmo has them in some form or another period.1) merits are not in most mmos, in fact, they are in 1 i can think of, just 1
2)while the idea of merits is great in order to keep content relevant and not raise a level cap, we need levl cap raises first, its a better idea for when a level cap raise is no longer a viable idea for the game because its too high already(good idea when your 99 or planning no further raises)
3) the main reason for a merit raise at that point is to be able to make stronger content that requires you to have merited without said cap raises, without having to overthrow the balance of the game(merits can make gradual increases in strength whereas a cap raise would be bigger leaps as can be seen in other games)
so yeah, too early to even consider merits
New EQs rofl? there has only been 2 and the second is practically a hanging by a thread failure.Because.......
New EQ's never take things from previous EQ's
New Halo's never use anything from previous Halo's.
New Call of Duty's dont use things from previous CoD's
New Guild Wars wont use things from previous GW's
Grow up kid, all new games use things from the past. Its what we are used to and it wont be something that changes the game completely around.
Halo wouldnt be halo if it didnt use the same everything which is does.
All call of dutys serve the same purpose the setting is nill.
Wouldnt be GuildWars if it didnt have some previous Guild Wars Mechanics.
there are not 2 in the EQ franchise, there are 3. EQ, EQII, and the prequel EQOA. Just mentioning this for accuracy purposes. EQOA was the EQ MMO for PS2 that preceded FFXI as the first MMO on the Ps2.
Edit: If you completed getting all your job skills, a merit system for those abilities and unlocking new ones would be ok. Like in a skill tree kind of way?

Sorry for misunderstanding. Some ideas may be like for gld. Increase phys Def as exclusive merrit, because no matter what, mrd is still a better tank. Have merrits for cure and stoneskin potencys for conj. Raise certain elements for thm. Like i said, similiar to ff11Actually, you were. You were using a FPS franchise game to game change carry over to justify one in a MMORPG.
Secondly, before you start calling names, perhaps you should get a clue. I never made a issue about anything to do with it having been in XI, not one word about was mentioned by me. All I said was that you were full of it when you claimed it was in most MMOs. You spoke out of ignorance about other MMOs and got called on it.
I asked you a very specific question about your idea, with specifics, for a merit system. Which you chose not to answer, only to apply name calling and claim. falsly I might add, that it was justified to name call over peoples issues with ideas from XI being applied to XIV. If you actually cared to be constructive about it, you would have just answered the question. Instead you took the option of further lowering any credibility you had left, to fly off the handle at me over something I never even came close to saying in my post.
All that being said. I ask you, what type of "merit" system do you want in XIV?
when the hell did wow get a merit system?
im aware rift and 11 have it
but "all other asian mmo" isnt being very specific
but the point still stands, its WAY too early in the game for a merit system, thats meant for when you dont want to raise the level cap, not just to throw in for the sake of having it

While I did like the merit system in xi I think it is a little to early at the current cap
